New DC?

That is on the Ms STATE board, this guy was the d-coordinator for Jeff Bower during those years that Southern MS had really good defenses, he is a good hire IMHO. That said i will miss CJT.

Actually he was only DC at SoMiss in 1999 and 2000...he was their DB's coach prior to that. He then became DC at Arkansas from 2002 to 2003 after coaching their secondary.

He was currently the LB's coach at SoCarolina.

don't know bout this one...I was getting used to the Ellis Johnson guy.

1999: Southern Miss
#9 in rushing defense
#16 in pass efficiency defense
#8 in total defense
#8 in scoring defense

2000: Southern Miss
#21 in rushing defense
#4 in pass efficiency defense
#2 in total defense
#8 in scoring defense

Numbers at Arkansas were not nearly as impressive, however.

good years at SM.

However, in 2004 at Arkansas is was their second worst defensive performance in school history giving up 397 yards per game. In fairness....they had lost several star players to injuries and a couple of starters to the NFL early.

Apparently, Houston Nutt said it was the toughest decision he had ever had to make.

I'm not liking this at all ! I hope I'm wrong. Just doesn't look like we hired one of the better DC's. I hope he proves me wrong and he doesn't ruin an otherwise very talented defense. I really hope this doesn't end up being a period of us being all offense and no defense as we were under Oleary.

Looks like Spurrier mean't business about going for a homerun at DC, I wonder if PJ might of settled for 2nd best or even worst.
What happened to Ellis Johnson, Reggie Herring or Ed Oregon? I hope we don't look back 2 or 3 years from now and see what a mistake this was.

I just got off a plane frm L.A. and all I can say is great, just freaking great

I can't say that I'm happy about this if it's true. Of all of the candidates that had been mentioned, he was honestly the last one I had hoped we would get.

Maybe just Maybe..We can get him on his resume?

:fingersx:

Remember when Gailey 1st hired as DC that guy from Kentucky, but we shot him down over his resume?

Look who we got on his 2nd choice, Tenuta.....

I'm not thrilled but I'm willing to give the guy a chance.

I will too.

But, this was my biggest fear when we he hired P.J., He has a history of great offense and lousy defense.

We have finally stock piled some good defensive talent and I just don't want to see it wasted. But, we just need to give him a chance. I just hope P.J. is committed enough to defense to pull the plug on this guy quickly if he doesn't produce. Spurrier certainly is not messing around, he wants to win badly and thus went after some of the best DC's in the business.
