Folks, let's take a deep breath and settle down a minute. My first thoughts when I read the news about Wommack were that I was sure less than thrilled with the hire. That said . . .
CPJ may be dumb but he ain't stupid. (And, no, I'm not calling him dumb. Although there seems to be a lot of questioning of his intelligence because of this hire.) But don't you think CPJ sees the same track record for Wommack as the rest of us. Don't you think that during the interview process Wommack had to explain what the problem was at Ark and why his D ranked so low?
Each candidate (4?) obviously had to give an account of their career and their defensive philosophy. Giff, Ellis, whoever else, evidently came up a little short in CPJ's mind. Did Wommack come out way ahead or did he come up "less short" than the other candidates? Only CPJ knows. But the fact is, in CPJ's mind Wommack was the best available candidate.
I learned a long time ago that there are always more factors in any personnel decision than are visible to casual bystanders. We won't know all that went into the decision. It's human nature to speculate where we have incomplete information. And, unfortunately, it seems to be human nature to think the worst when speculating.
When it comes right down to it, though, we don't have much choice but to wait and see how the full staff shapes up and what product they put on the field.
And now, to quote CPJ, "TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!"
