I'm calling this a football topic as the person selected will be DanR's boss....

Information from inside RPI this is one of the top 2 candidates for the job. My source says the RPI faculty is hoping we will take her off their hands.

I know several essentially VP level folks who worked under her. None have anything good to say about her.

If she is on the short list what the hell is going on at North Ave? The way the comments read about that President she could give Nancy Poliski a run for the money as 'Queen Bi*^#'. So much for sports if we get that person.

I understand why we would look at her. She runs a very large, very well known research institute. She's obviously very smart. But there's nothing in her resume that gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling about her. Sports may be negatively impacted as well, but that's secondary to the health and success of the Institute as a whole.

Oh, please God no. I'm with TechSBP, I know a couple of people at RPI and they have absolutely nothing good to say about her. It's rumored that she wanted to get rid of RPI's entire undergraduate program. I hate to be political, but my feeling is she wouldn't have gotten so high up as a white male.

A strength of Georgia Tech has been in the participation and generosity of its alumni, one of whom was Wayne Clough. We certainly don't need someone who would alienate alumni.

You are right on. But, I can't imagine us hiring her. GT has turned down candidates for important positions who weren't extremely enthusiastic about GT. Loving GT before you got here used to be a job criteria in the first half of this decade. I don't know if things have changed. Somehow, I can't imagine us hiring someone who hates undergrads. Of course, the hiring committee has some good folks, but, I don't know the agenda of anyone on it.

I originally thought the committee might look to private industry or former cabinet officials as well as academicians. I hope I'm not wrong. My dream candidate was Robert Gates (former president of Texas A&M) but the country needs him more than we do and there is no reason to think he would have been interested, even if he were not retained by President-elect Obama. I think we can look to the provost level, or high level positions within university systems, to find a good president (read--fits GT). We took Dr. Clough from this type of position. There is no need to take a president from another college unless they are the doing well. That said, I wish we could lure Dr. Chameau back from Cal-Tech.

Robert Resnick - textbook author and physics professor emeritus, is listed on the Wikipedia site under this small 2 bit school.

THE Physics book of GT, brings cold chills to me to remember that big blue book.

If she is hired, it will only be because she's a black woman. I wish I was a minority....

dont worry, you will be in about 15 years. enjoy it when it comes dumbass

dumbass? Please explain. And explain how I miss out on financial aid when OMED gives scholarships to anyone who isn't white.

It's generally much more enjoyable to be a part of a majority that is in charge of almost everything than it is to be part of a minority that gets more scholarships.

dumbass for asserting that the only reason a black woman would get hired is because she is black and/or a woman rather than because she earned it

please, tell me about how great it is to be a minority when you get pulled over, get your ass beat and thrown in jail, and maybe hung -- oh i forgot that happened all of 50 years ago.. well until it happened again and again and still goes on

that is why you statements were those of a dumbass. you wish you were a minority? dont say that till you try it.

btw, white kids also get scholarships and they get prefential treatment along the way without ever even having to apply for it -- because they are white.

Folks,

Let's get back on topic here. It doesn't matter to me and it shouldn't matter to anyone here what the next President's sex, race or religion is.

What is important is how they will perform if they are selected as our next President.

Based upon the inside information I have from RPI, this individual would be a very bad pick for Georgia Tech.

I wonder if the institute will consider Dr. Zulma Toro-Ramos. An alumna, seems to be very competent.
