I would say that BMI is more significant than you would imagine. It is true that you want linemen with an above average BMI to help to absorb blows and the like, but you do not want someone with so great a BMI that it slows you down or decreases your stamina. It is also true that it is able to be modified after you are acquired into the system, but I am sure that teams do not want to have someone that they have to constantly babysit to have the proper diet.
