No 12th game

I'm as butthurt about UCF as anyone, but this would be way more important if we had lost a home game.

On the bright side when was the last time did we have a bye week to prepare for Miami at Miami?

Meh, FSU and Miami will also play 11 games AFAIK. They also haven't found replacements. That's a lot of lost money for FSU, because they lost a home game.

UMass didn't have a game cancelled directly because of Irma. They couldn't just play a 13th game on 10/7. The Umass-FIU game was part of a deal with the AAC where their game against USF was postponed to a later year and they play FIU on 12/2.

The one team that GT could have scheduled was Indiana, who also had a 10/7 bye. But Indiana would have demanded a home game and neither team really wanted to add a P5 opponent. Indiana instead scheduled Charleston Southern. Because Tech has already used our one FCS opponent for bowl eligibility, there's not much in scheduling a second FCS home game.

We could've been their 12th game and FIU could've been their 13th.

Anyway, you're assuming that GT can only schedule teams that have open dates on 10/7. You can get teams to reschedule their games to make that an open date though.

Here was one possibility for playing GA State. It requires two reschedulings, but I wonder if there might be other teams you could make available with just one.

1. Move Georgia State - Appalachian State from 11/25 to 11/18. Both teams have an open date that Saturday.
2. Move Georgia State - Coastal Carolina from 10/7 to 11/25.
3. Play Georgia State on 10/7, our bye week before Miami.

Stansbury just didn't try hard enough!

I get this viewpoint and I'm sure that's what the administration has in mind too, but you always want to pile up as many wins as possible. Like Paul Johnson said, not playing feels like a loss. Tech played two FCS teams in 2008 and 2013. It doesn't help in terms of bowl eligibility, but I have to imagine they'd make money from a 2nd FCS home game, plus 9-3 beats 8-3, 7-5 beats 6-5, and so on.

I get it, but it is disappointing to me to not have the full game 12-game schedule, even if it's a boring 56-0 beatdown of someone much worse than Jacksonville State.

Arkansas State has 11 games and they play Georgia Southern on Thursday, 10/5. Both teams have the Saturday before open. Would've been straightforward to move that game to Saturday, 9/30 and play Arkansas State 10/7.

Playing ga state or FIU or another equally worthless opponent has less value than having a bye before playing Miami. If you're going to schedule a 12th game schedule someone the fanbase would be excited about. I personally believe a 11-1 ACC champion would get into the playoffs and i dont think anyone on the schedule is unbeatable, not even Clemson. And if we're sitting at 5 wins and needed the 12th game to be bowl eligible, öööö that bowl we would get. A healthy, well rested and well practiced Tech squad this year might take us to the next level so lets just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Surprised USF isn't interested. Maybe we don't want to go on the road, but it would be a great way to put them at the top of the non-P5 list for that New Years 6 bowl.

This and only this. Our objective should be to win the coastal, win the ACC, and hopefully get into the playoffs. I would rather have the extra week to get healthy and prepare for Miami than play Ga State. And you are a moran if you think otherwise.

UMass isn't allowed to play 13 games under NCAA rules. The only teams that can play 13 games are those with road games at Hawaii, to help recoup their costs.

Your scenario with GSU would require cooperation with four teams (GT, GSU, App State and Coastal Carolina).

Well, the USF fans are interested. Unfortunately, our AD, Coach Strong and the local beatwriters (not that they matter) aren't going to sign off on it because they are gutless. Sad actually. Georgia Tech would be our one legitimate game this season. Michigan State and Wisconsin either bought their 2017 return game in Tampa out or moved it to a different year altogether leaving the sad panda program Illinois as our only P5 program on the schedule. So now, we're sitting on our best team in a decade and we have a schedule as soft as a marshmellow. The one saving grace presently is the fact UCF actually looks decent (hate saying that about our little sister to the East) and will most likely be undefeated when we play them on Black Friday. Our offense still isn't clicking under Sterlin Gilbert... which actually makes me realize we still haven't tapped our true potential. Gilbert thought is going to be a damn good coordinator. Our defense has been lights out for the most part since we actually hired someone worth a damn to coach the speed we have. Playing Georgia Tech is no different than preparing for the Naval Academy IMO each season - takes discipline with players sticking to their assignments religiously. If we can't beat Georgia Tech IMO, we don't deserve to play in the Peach Bowl. Either way, we're both sitting on an empty week and people with deeper pockets need to sway some influence on the respective AD's. Obviously GT wouldn't want to come to Raymond James to play... but maybe we can do a one-for-one with a crazy buyout so we don't get screwed again if we play in Atlanta first.

After four games, we're third in the nation against the run. I'd love to see Tech bring their running attack into our house and see which one prospers. I'd bet you wouldn't keep us to our average... however I doubt you'd get close to hitting your 400 yard average either. You would definitely need to throw some to keep our team on our heels. It would be an interesting battle for sure. Oh well... what could have been.

The most advanced metaphor science of the 21st century hasn't yet produced something sufficient to compare to the damage we'd do to your defense. You quite simply don't have enough knees to even think about this contest. Just you posting on this board has put many ligaments and bones in danger. Highly irresponsible, you lunatic.

When I played at USF, you learned how to avoid getting cut block. If this cohort of players isn't smart enough to figure that out, I'm sure some knees will be lost. The stupid shall be punished.
