No GA state tax for NIL $$

Paywall.

Did the bill pass or is it just proposed?

Just proposed thus far. here is a non paywall article.

Obviously being proposed by a uga grad. Check out this quote from the article.
“We need to make sure we have a competitive playing field for Kirby Smart and Brett Keys to make sure Georgia Tech, Georgia, all our universities have that even playing field,” Beach said.

Well, at least they are thinking of Brett Keys as well as Kirby....

I don’t know why but I read that like Adam Sandler in Waterboy

Here's how the idea came about for State senator Brandon Beach introducing the bill...it's all (as usual) about giving ugag any advantage possible:
"I had dinner at Lake Burton with Nick and Terry Saban, my wife and me, and another couple, and he [Saban] loves Kirby Smart like a son," Beach said. "He said, 'If you want to help Kirby until they figure out all this NIL stuff, one thing you could do is eliminate the income tax on NIL athletes.' So I got the idea actually from Nick Saban."

Good lord. The bill would benefit every school the same way. Regardless of who introduced the bill. From KSU to State to Southern, it’s about the NIL $$$. Period. The more you have, of course means the more you have to pay for high level SA’s. This is just an edge that will add another check box into the column to pick a GEORGIA school. You can go down the rabbit hole all you want, but this bill was proposed to keep up with what other schools are doing with NIL collectives (tOSU, Texas, etc), not to hold down GT.

If you are going to write a bill, at least make it helpful. Give an income tax credit for consecutive years of NIL. That gives an incentive to at least stay in GA if you jump ship.

I hear you and agree, and in my first post I said it could benefit all Georgia schools. My first point is that the bill was created to give uga an advantage, that it benefits any other program is secondary.
My second point is that I don't appreciate 18-25 years old athletes making six or seven figures getting a tax break.

Millionaires get all kinds of tax breaks. If you don’t like the law it is just a proposal. Get out and contact your state legislator and work against it.
