Not feeling good about anything

Yes we are down in both but not that bad. Basketball i think will be up next year with iman shumpert coming in.football i couldnt explain how happy i am about the future im more excited than i ever have been before.

The last time GT was an option based team Pepper Rodgers was the coach. If you are referring to 98 and 99, you must not have watched GT very much. That team was option based the same way that LSU of 2007 was option based.

The best offenses at GT were under Ralph, and they ran a little of everything. A multiple offense is what you saw Monday with LSU.

Can we win with PJ's offense? We all have our own opinions. Time will tell.

No, I was thinkng of Pepper's years. With a couple of inexplicable lapses, offense was MNC caliber. Just no concern for defense. I think we would all be thrilled with offensive years like those; we will need defense to be a serious threat to superior programs, or there could be a lot of 35-42 type games.

The fact is undeniable. Our football and basketball programs are in complete disarray and I don't see it getting any better any time soon.

Undeniable? I would call it undefendable....

We haven't had a losing season in how long in football, and we go to bowl games every year. Good enough -- not to some -- but "complete disarray" is overstating things. See Duke football for "disarray".

Saying we're having a rough year in baskteball would be a defendable statement, however "complete disarray" is neglecting to take into account the effect losting our three best players on our team. Furthermore, pointing to our national championship game of a few years ago, and a better than 50% going to the NCAA tournament, if our program is in disarray, I can think of a lot of programs that would be very, very happy with that.

I hope you don't consider this post a bash, but I do disagree with you for the above reasons....Mike

... I never thought I would see the day where we lost 7 straight.

Well, I'll beat the dead horse here. We've come close to beating UGA during that span, a couple of times I thought we played above ourselves to keep the game close when we should have gotten shelled. 2006 was our year to end the streak. UGA was rebuilding and our team was primed for great things, our offensive coaching blew it.

CPJ has a big chore ahead of him next year, and I suspect the streak will continue unless UGA is faced with some key injuries. In CPJ's third season, UGA will have new personnel at QB and RB, and GT's team should be comfortable with the new offense. I hope it doesn't take that long to get the win; but it might. After that, the series should even out some.

That's debatable and I would argue odds are against it. Why are we getting so many decommits and transfers? I know we have a new coach and system, etc. but this is unusual.
For at least one school, Michigan has had a number of problems. At least one decommit from a quarterback and a large number of top prospects committing elsewhere during their prolonged coach search.

We had a radical change of vision for offense and we lost maybe the biggest selling point for defensive players. CPJ was also given very little time before the dead period.

I trust that things will work out fine. CPJ has more than enough for the core of his offense, Nesbitt, Dwyer and a fairly experienced and mobile OL. The defense loses a lot, but I'm excited about MB and others from last year's very talented class having more experience.

Benign neglect on Pepper's defenses? Lucius Sanford, Reggie Wilkes, Al Richardson, Lawrence Lowe, Don Bessilieu, Mackel Harris, two Rhinos, Rick Gibney. Three of those guys were voted to Tech's all-time team. Five made the all-Era team. One is in the College Football HOF. Three more - Blanton, Dayton, & Harris - were also drafted.

But we also had 240 pound DL during Pepper's time as well. The defensive players I knew hated him.

Yes, there were some excellent players, just not enough of them to make a difference: Two 4-6-1's (76, 79), two 6-5's (74,77), one 7-4 (75), one 7-5 (78). That's the discussion over on the interdisciplinary thread - can GT find a way to get more of that type without compromising the importance of academics? Top-5 rankings, BCS bowls, MNC's: programs legitimately chasing these things are flush with excellent talent 2-deep nearly everywhere. How long has it been since we could say that description fit GT?

PJ's offense will do just fine at Tech. It averaged 30 points a game against BCS teams in PJ term at Navy. If we can't win with 30 points a game then our defense is awful. I am more concerned with our defense coordinator. This guy has a lot of years of experience, but is a journeyman who hasn't been a DC for a while. He 'shared' the job at So. Miss. He also got fired by South Carolina and Arkansas (did not renew contract) in past years. Not exactly a glowing resume.

Will Tech ever be a BCS team? Slim chance with most or all the teams that traditionally get into the BCS offering Jock Degrees and taking in marginal NCAA qualifiers. The marginal qualifiers get into the Jock Degree programs and stay in school. At Tech SA's take real Degree programs and some flunk out, some get into academic trouble and go early NFL, others do all right but without the above mentioned talented teammates.

Will we ever beat Georgia? Hate to say it but this rivalry is looking more and more like the ND-Navy "rivalry". I never thought I would see the day where we lost 7 straight.

I've been a fan of this offense for 22 years . I've watched UGAgs defense seriously struggle with this same offense. Two years ago your new O-line coach Mike Sewak was GSU's HC. GSU ran for over 300 yards:eek5: in that game.

With only one week to prepare for CPJ's offense it is VERY difficult. Because it is non-traditional it requires much discipline to defend ON EVERY PLAY. That is what makes this offense a BIG PLAY offense. You will see much more 20+ yard plays out of this offense than any in recent GT history.

Knowing the offense and CPJ's motivational skills I'll predict UGAg goes DOWN to Tech next year if CPJ gets a decent QB.
