O'Brien to NC State - wow

I thought Johnson was a lock. This could be what NC State needs to get over the hump in the ACC.

Jailbreak for the players currently in Raleigh...now!

Talk about polar opposities...Amato and O'Brien.

With exception of the fact O'Brien only wanted to go to a school without tough academic requirements for athletes....he found one!! :laugher:

A lateral move at best. I don't understand this. I am indifferent, but I liked O'Brien. Can't say I will now.

What happened to all the Bill Cowher talk. Did Cowher turn the job down or was it that NC State wasn't willing to wait for him to finish the NFL season?

What an absolute idiot. Why on earth would someone quit the BC job to go to NC State? Wow. He must not realize what he's getting himself into.

On the bright side - good for us. It means BC will have to fish for a new coach, and we'll be playing against even more schools in transition next year.

I agree with most here. I read the story twice last night to make sure I was reading it correctly. Very puzzling. :dunno:

This IS Hard To Understand For Sure ....

leaving a program he had on good footing in what appears a leteral move at best. Of course, the $$$ from NC State might be better than anything he could've anticipated getting from BC. When I've made "lateral" moves in the past the $$$ somehow always felt like a promotion.

I wouldn't live in Boston for love or money. North Carolina sounds much better to me.

If the chick was hot enough, or the money was good enough, I'd live nearly anywhere. Although Boston's got to be pretty low on my list.

I mean yeah, Raleigh is pretty nice, but it's really no nicer than most of the rest of NC.

I actually agree with ncjacket who posted in an earlier thread on this one.
I don't think most coaches move for money but in this case I think it was for money.

It's got to be about the $$$. State will pay anything now to make sure they don't look cheap compared to UNC. From what I remember, BC was on the lower end of the scale in the ACC for coaching salaries and he won't have to worry about those pesky academics anymore.

I can see why O'Brien would make the move. What I can't see is why State jumped so quickly to hire him. If they have the cash you would think they could attract someone with more of a name.

Paul Johnson is waiting for Gailey to cough up another fur-ball next season after which Rad would have to make a change.

:snerk:

T'anks. I needed that.

I think Miami would be a better fit for O'Brien if they were to offer him. But both schools would pay alot more than BC!$$$$!

Yeah, then we can prove that the option offense doesn't work in big boy football. Especially when we've recruited pro-style players.

He is the next to lowest paid HC in the ACC @ BC.
And leaving the periphery of the ACC to come to Tobacco Road will mean that he won't get screwed every year come Bowl Selection time.

I wouldn't try to argue with LongforDodd. He is so irrational that nobody can change his narrow view on GT football.
