O'Brien to NC State - wow

I just think ncsu will always be seen as a place of second class mediocrity. Best of luck to him, but he had a better chance of landing a prestigious national job winning at a Catholic school in Boston.
ncsu's biggest rival is the Pirates of ECU, right?

Since UNC sucks so much, I would say the Pirates are their rivals. Although UNC did beat them this year.

Different point. ECU is ncsu's traditional rival.

No, State is who ECU points to but UNC is State's biggest rival, no question about it. Not to say there isn't a healthy dose of hate for ECU among State fans but UNC is the big one for them.

Just to summarize the reasons Obrian would move to NCSU

1) money - as others point out BC doesn't pay. Obrian made about 750K and is reported to be up for about $1.2 M in Raleigh

2) facilities - BC's facilities are much lower than NCSU. Amato did get that right

3) recruiting leeway - NCSU is among the lowest academic standards in the ACC for athletes. Obrian now has the leeway he wanted at GT and never got at BC

4) college town vs pro town - BC is on page 22 of the boston sports page. He will be on page one here (with UNC)

He has wanted out of BC for a while so it is no surprise he is moving. He obviously didn't like the setup at BC and if you look BC isn't doing anything to even make an attempt to keep him.

#4 has been overlooked on this thread and certainly had to have factored into OBrien's decision...NC State gets far more pub in their media outlet than BC likely ever will here in Boston.

you think the Atlanta media is negative towards GT, you should see the coverage of BC out here...the only time I ever hear BC being discussed on Sports Talk Radio out here if after they lose a game like they did at NCSU or Miami this year. Its unfortunate, but they don't get much attention at all until the disappointing losses start coming around.

BTW, I come across many of the same arguments towards OBrien than I hear about Chan..inability to get the program over the top, QB management (this was a problem for them last year I believe), etc.

3) recruiting leeway - NCSU is among the lowest academic standards in the ACC for athletes. Obrian now has the leeway he wanted at GT and never got at BC

Don't forget that NC State still can't take partial qualifiers.
