OC replacement

Against Pitt Sims had 359 yds passing and 60 yds rushing before subtracting Sack yardage.

Is PNode that bad if be found a way for our "embattled QB" to put up 420 yds of Total Off in a Game where the OLine had a horrible Day?

Doesn't seem like he's that bad of a playcaller if he could get more consistent Play from the OLine.

Those are good QB numbers, which makes the fact that we only managed to put up 21 points all the more mysterious and frustrating. (Didn’t people used to rag on fans who pointed to our rushing and TOP stats under the previous regime?). Unfortunately, the game was effectively over after our first four offensive snaps.

Riddle me this Batman. Our OL seems to be a fairly experienced group (re: number of years of college ball). Why can't our guys move or shield their guys, so our RB corp can run for positive yardage? If the OL practices together every day to perfect the game plan scheme for the upcoming week, why are we not seeing results on game day? I'm beginning to wonder if our guys are softer than the opposition? It'd be nice to see a personal foul on an OLineman for unnecessary roughness or the like. Hell, if we are going to be penalized, then make it count.
Takes thoroughbreds (sp?) to win the Kentucky Derby.

If you compare the condensed Gm film of us vs Pitt to the extended highlights of Bama vs Olé Miss you will see just how far we are behind Athletically from a great College OL, heck we are a long way from being mediocre from a raw Athleticism perspective, our OLs show footwork & mobility like a Low G5 or FCS Program, then you add in not knowing their assignments and whiffs on blocks.

To lift weights, run sprints, eat at our Training Table for 2 plus years, and then for our OL to put out that level of crap performance is a head scratcher.

Brent Key didn't just forget how to coach FB when he went into an Office at the Edge Bldg.

Most of those stats came during the first 3 qtrs when the Game was still undecided, he had 199 yds passing and 50 yds rushing at the half, so either you didn't watch the Gm or you are one of those selective memory Guys that posts with an Agenda in mind rather than being honest about GT FB.

I don't blame the QB for getting drilled when he's trying to complete a pass, at least 1 Int is on the OL, for crappy blocking, on the first Int the DL was basically untouched on a pass play and was almost in the QBs Lap.

Sounds very suspicious to blame the OC & QB for crappy OL play, but you agenda driven Guys know no bounds.
Maybe...there is plenty of blame to go around with this team. In my opinion we have enough talent not to get boat raced by Pitt. More times than not we don't appear to be prepared.
I don't understand touting stats when we get beat badly. To me its like sad desperation to find something positive.
I think the game was lost when we failed to score a TD on the 4th and goal from the four yard line.

Sometimes I think Pnope and Collins are purposefully sand bagging the offense to build 'the greatest transition in history' narrative that half the board is head over heels for. If we go through 3-4 years of dismal 3-9 seasons people will be ecstatic if we have a Chan Gailey-esque 7-5 season in year 6; he might even get a 7 year contract extension.

Hello my friend. I can see by your statement that you have also been a fan of the GT for very long time like myself. I feel your pain.

I touted the Stats to the Guy that claimed the OC had a bad Game, our OC has to call plays with the OL we have now.

To claim the OC had a bad Game and not try to understand why, is beyond silly, these are same folks that didn't give him any credit for the UNC Game.

Looking at the Game , his schemes and playcalls are solid, we seem to have open players and scoring opportunities, we just happen to be weak in one critical area OLine.

BTW..........

For 11 straight years we allowed a HC to tout rushing yards and say see the system works if the players would just execute, but now that same philosophy is no longer allowed.

That's like playing baseball and moving home plate between every pitch, there seems to be a lot of moving the Goalposts around these parts.

Here is a possible solution that would simplify our coaching structure.
1) Replace the current offensive coordinator with Coach Key.
2) Hire the best offensive line coach available.
3) Hire the best QB coach available at the same time.

#1 no way do I want CBK as our OC, IMO he would be wayyyyyy worse than PNode

#2 The best OL coaches are now getting $1milion per yr & up, it is likely that our Budget won't allow us to hire a better Guy than CBK.

#3 Both QBs have gotten significantly better, so the overwhelming evidence is that PNode is doing something good with our QB Room.

Once again based on our Budget we are more likely to hire a Pat Nix than an Art Briles (back when he 1st came to the College ranks)

I don't think our OL is getting beat physically as much as they are getting beat technically. We may have a few instances of O-linemen getting bull rushed and shoved into the QB; but it seem more like guys coming free into the backfield untouched or only brushed. I've been on CBK's case for a while; but it is hard to believe he has gone from being one of the highly touted OL coaches in the nation to less than mediocre in 3 years. It almost seems deliberate. I guess I am of the mindset that a good OL coach could take a group of walk on players and have a mediocre OL in 3 years; they would lose some physical battles and it would be obvious they were getting physically beat; but not so much guys running free in the backfield like we are experiencing. When our OL seems less coordinated than NIU's in year 3 something seems fishy.
How do the transfers grade out compared to the rest? They haven’t been here three years

The new HC moved the goal posts, not us. The previous one expected whatever players he had on the field to execute AND his (offensive) system did work. That was proven at more places than here. His deficiencies were elsewhere.

The new HC says they have to have better, different players in order to execute their game plan at levels that don't even approach mediocre. The problem is that no one is asking them to be a Top 20 team now. All anyone expects is for them to be able to beat teams they should and remain competitive with teams at their level and somewhat better consistently.

Wasn't 2 suppose to be what we did?

On that note, yes, lets give the position coach with the worst performing unit on the team a promotion. I guess that's also a way to get him to not coach offensive line.

Slight difference... The previous HC won an ACC Title, and took the team to a couple more ACC title games and even won an Orange Bowl. In short the Coach had produced results on the field for what his scheme produced. What has Coach Collins done, besides bring an uptick to recruiting????
Well lets review:

Geoff Collins Highlights Thread:

2019 - Year 1
-Lost to the Citadel
-Lost to Temple in a game in which our only points were a safety
-Shut out at home for the first time in 382 games

2020 Year-2
-Curb stomped by UCF
-The only team to lose to Syracuse in 2020
-Gave up 404 passing yards to Trevor Lawrence in our biggest loss in school history & ACC history

2021 Year-3
-Lost to NIU, who didn't when a game in 2020 and let Wyoming put 50 on them and then saw Michigan hang 63 on them.
-Gave up 389 yards to Kenny Pickett in a 52 point rout by Pitt

We can thank Coach Collins for the uptick in recruiting and now the AD needs to bring in a P-5 coaching staff who can coach the boys up!

There needs to be a laughing emoji on here, but since there isn't, LMAO !!!

You may be the only one who thinks the play calls are solid, Geoff.

The prior coach used to say "good teams don't lose twice in a row." We haven't won twice in a row....

I said it was a potential solution. I did not advocate for that solution. We need to do something because the current structure is not working.
Coach Key needs to be evaluated by his entire body of work. The opinions of Coach Saban and Coach O'Leary carry some weight.
I wonder how much of Coach Key's time goes to coaching the offensive line? Is he being distracted by his other duties? Would we be better off hiring a full time OL coach?

Other the Citadel. who should we have realistically beaten after our win based on the schedule?
