The University of Georgia generated the second-highest revenue in college football and ranked in the top 15 overall in sports income, according to a report Monday in Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal.
SportsBusiness Journal, citing Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act forms, said UGA reported $67.05 million in football revenue in 2007-2008, second only to the University of Texas ($72.95 million).

The University of Georgia Athletic Association and ISP Sports announced Wednesday a blockbuster eight-year and $92.8 million media rights and marketing deal that puts Georgia in the upper echelon of college contracts.
The new deal, worth $11.6 million annually, would be the most lucrative annual rights agreement in college football, according to data from Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal, a sister publication of Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Tech may never match these numbers due to the size of the school, but it needs to be able to compete with them if we are going to stay competitive long term. I really don't want that mutt's face to become more ubiquitous around Georgia...

My take is that they have under achieved to the point where it's almost criminal how stupid their boosters and others that continually pour these millions into that doublewide school. What do they have to show for it? A couple of SEC championships. If I was a big money guy, I'd be asking some serious questions of Evans. If I was Adams, I'd be asking for some of that money to upgrade the academics. They are a joke.

But there is some good news:

I have great news to report as I reach out to you before "The Good Word" takes a summer hiatus for a few weeks. Despite certain gloom and doom reports in the local media this week, our Yellow Jacket football season ticket sales continue to go quite well. We have already surpassed last season's total number of tickets sold... and the heavy lifting by our new Georgia Tech Athletic Ticket Sales Team is just getting ready to begin.

If we can just continually increase demand for season tickets that would be a good start, even after an "average" season or a season with average home games. They key must be constantly increasing the number of people who renew their season tickets while constantly increasing total season ticket sales.


Tech has tradition, it wins, and it is located in one of the biggest cities in the damn country, there is no reason we should be in this position. [/rant]

Given the size of the 2 schools I would say that's fairly competitive.

It would be easier to stay competitive if U[sic]GA used some of that money to plug their budget gap.

They'd rather build statutes and 5-star resort facilities for their professional athletes than avoid faculty layoffs.

Well, Florida is not doing as well as UGa and it doesn't seem to be a problem for them.

Florida is doing better than UGA in most categories.

1) UGA was #2 in the country (Texas #1) with $67.05 million in football revenue, while Florida was #3 in the country with $66.1 million. Hardly a difference there...only 1.3%.

2) Florida is #3 in the country in all-sports revenue behind Texas and Ohio State at $106.03 million. UGA is #13 in all-sports revenue with $84.02 million. What should be scary to UGA is that 80% of their revenue comes from one sport while Florida is at 62%.

3) Florida's sports marketing contract is worth more in total dollars than UGA...as is Ohio States...UGA averages more per year at $11.6 million simply because it was the latest contract signed...or else Texas and Florida would be higher. Texas is at $9.4 miilion per year and Florida at $10 million per year.
