How exactly do you look at this drive chart and say it is the Defense’s problem? Punt, punt, fumble, punt, downs, Int.
The four punts IAR are problematic. I say four IAR because that fumble was the botched punt. Whatever that was intended to be, it went into the books as a fumble, but it was a screwed-up punt. That is the bad part. Every drive in the 2nd quarter ended in a punt.
In the first half, the O started very fast but somehow went to sleep in the second quarter.
In the 2nd half:
Possession 1, the O drove the ball 62 yards to the BG 14 and tried the 4th and 1 instead of kicking the easy FG. Good drive, screw-up at the end.
Possession 2, the O drove 19 yards and then King tosses the Pick-6. Decent initial movement, screw-up scuttled the drive.
Possession 3, the O drives 81 yards for the TD. Good drive.
Possession 4, the O drives 59 yards and throws an INT in the EZ. Good drive, screw-up at the end.
Possession 5, the O drives 65 yards for the TD. Good drive.
In the second half, the O moved the ball very well, but we just shot ourselves in the foot with mistakes.
Yes, the still O has a lot to work on. New system still and needs work. The 2nd quarter is part of a larger trend of the O taking entire quarters off. That is disturbing and has to stop. In the second half, however, I will say that when you are playing fast and tossing the ball all over the lot trying to catch up, mistakes often happen. Not an excuse, just a fact of life. Had the D made just 1-2 stops, this likely would not have happened.
