Official 2024 Signing Day - Dec 04

I get the angst, but some of y'all were really weird about this. Basically acting like the kid is a problem, isn't worth it, etc. all because it took him an extra day to sign.

We let our current OC delay his arrival for weeks so that he could help our arch rivals win a national championship.
I saw that as coping. As Tech fans, we are used to these situations not going our way.

NIL/Portal is the earthquake that will kill the factories. Ten years from now, Bama and uga will be screaming about getting the money out of college football. Tech signing a class like this is all the proof you need. No more fitting round pegs in square holes or spending three years developing a one or two year starter. Bring in a solid core group each year, and then go buy what you need off the shelf after you've seen them perform at some other college. Now, it's all about who has the most money and who spends it best.

Who has had more experience evaluating players and looking for diamonds in the rough? Us or the factories? You can live in ATL, get a world class education, make the same amount of NIL money (or more). Who's going to Tuscaloosa, Norman (Norman???), Tallahassee, Clemson, Baton Rouge, Knoxville? They'll still get their share, but now so will we. All we have ever needed to thrive was a level playing field. Texas and the California Coast are the only college football locales that can offer what Atlanta does in money, celebrity, and bling to an 18 year old.

To be fair, Norman is suburban Oklahoma City, so it does not stand out as "bad" compared to the other cities on your list.

@BuzzCzar bro chill out. You’re old, you’ve seen this story play out not in our favor countless times. There were no hot takes, just rational and justified PTSD. Poopycryface me all day, but I am glad we signed this kid and every other kid who wants to play at Tech and for this awesome coaching staff. No one has been more positive about this regime since Brent took over, and this year’s team, and our future, than me. Go Jackets baby.

:crapstorm:

We had already seen a four star player that wanted to come here have to sign with USC due to bureaucratic red tape. It tends to make us gun shy.

It's not the worried posters that were being weird. I imagine that vast majority of us had a "here we go again" feeling. It was the people started saying, "he's not a Tech man" and "He won't be dedicated to the team" or "cut our losses now" who were being weird.

I don't know, I get the "here we go again feeling" for those of us that have been through more disappointments than we care to remember as Tech fans, but still it's kind of silly getting frantically worked up over the minutiae at this stage when that same level of Tech fan experience should also tell you that you could easily fill a bus with the coming "Tech Saviors" who didn't end up panning out. In the end we'll have the players that we'll have when the games start being played, overall all to me Key and his staff has earned a great deal of trust in what they are building. I'm very optimistic for the future of Tech, more then I've been in quite some time which is saying something compared to the forced apathy just a few years ago where the sentiment was legitimately that our time was over and we would forever be bottom dwellers. Key has already turned that around in very short order. So I'm not gonna get too worked up in either direction if this guy signs or that guy doesn't sign. I'm confident in leadership from Cabrerra on down, really the most difficult part is waiting for next September. So, take a breath, drink some whiskey clear, potential greatness awaits.

I agree that is not cool.

Absolutely agree with this. That's part of what I'm trying to say.

when that same level of Tech fan experience should also tell you that you could easily fill a bus with the coming "Tech Saviors" who didn't end up panning out.

Agreed. Recruiting rankings are, at best, an inexact science. However, they're not completely meaningless either. The more people like Josh Petty and Tae Harris you can bring in, the better the odds of a couple of them panning out and improving the team.

Again, complete agreement. One of the reasons I'm more excited about this recruiting class over, for example, 2020 (where we were ranked 28), is that Key and Co. have been shown to have an eye for talent, and, just as importantly, the ability to develop it.

Pretty sure those folk are also the "You can't fire me, I quit!" folks.

For sure, I'm very excited about the recruiting results so far! And the more of those type of guys you can bring in the more it encourages others to also make the commitment - it's a nice positive feedback loop, all of which are signs of program being built, because now we have an actual staff doing football type of things instead of whatever you might call the previous abomination of a program killing asshole trying to enact some self indulgent vision of how greatness could only be achieved through his personal touch feely approach of love and good vibes for all being the key to victory. I could give him credit for hiring Key but no, I'm not even going to do that, because öööö him, that's why. Yes, now I feel better.

One thing that I think is going to really help - of course getting the 4 and 5 stars is awesome, but also to be able to build some depth, that is going to be crucial and is what is going to get us in the playoffs at some point. It still blows my mind how we performed in the last game given the number of players on defense that went down. I really believe that we won that game by 14+ points in actual football terms. We were were the better team by a large margin.

From Espn+

17. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
ESPN 300 commits: 5
Top offensive prospect: OT Josh Petty
Top defensive prospect: S Tae Harris

Ranking entering Wednesday: 18

The Yellow Jackets are wisely taking advantage of the deep pool of prospects in talent-rich Georgia. Versatile defensive back Dalen Penson is an excellent pickup. He contributed at wide receiver, quarterback and secondary in high school. He's also a good track-and-field athlete. Projecting to defense, Penson plays aggressively with good quickness and ball skills. Tae Harris is another key and versatile addition to their secondary. He could play corner or safety and posted some of the top numbers on this offseason's camp circuit, including a blazing laser-timed 4.38 40. Andre Fuller and Christian Garrett are strong in-state defensive line additions. Fuller is simply a good football player with active hands and has the tools to be a tough, productive player up front. Garrett, a one-time Georgia commit, has more ideal measurables as well as good explosiveness and active hands, and is a big in-state get.

Coach Brent Key has an offensive line background and landed some of the top OLs in the class. Josh Petty was a big recruiting win and is the highest-ranked commit for the Yellow Jackets in the ESPN 300 era. A top-10 OT prospect, he is a two-sport athlete who also wrestles and possesses good body quickness and bend.

Watched a little bit it last night. Eric Singleton 2.0 from the little I saw.

He was the only viable receiving threat on Buford’s team. Carrollton is loaded with P5 players as well, so they kept him in check for the most part. The Buford QB really was nothing special, otherwise he may have popped one or two off deep.

Carrollton also has some players we should be checking in on. Their RB (Jr) played phenomenally well against a stacked Buford defense. They have some jitterbug receiver that’s 5’5” (Jr). He’s a Rutherford type with his cuts/elusiveness. I also was very impressed with Carrollton’s defensive speed/athleticism.
