Twice I cheered for those hunchbacks- 1980 and 1990.
In hindsight though, had they beat Colorado in 1990, the media would’ve declared them national champs over us!

In Lou Holtz's Wins, Losses and Lessons, retells a story about Bobby Bowden. He and Bobby Bowden are very close friends and they played when Coach Holtz was at William & Mary and Coach Bowden was at West Virgina. West Virginia won in a lopsided game and kept their starters in until late in the game. Coach Holtz asked Coach Bowden why he did that since they are friends.

Coach Bowden's response: "It's your job to keep the score down, not mine. If you don't like the score, either recruit harder or coach better. I've got to coach my team and you've got to coach yours. You can only coach one team."

Coach Holtz said that stung, because he knew he was right.

So, not “the rest of football.” Stop being a weenie.
 
Watching Notre Dame v. Clemson it seems we are 12 good players away from that level.
 
I didn't check the stats.
How were we on money down against Bye?
And we still looked like a monkey bleeping a football trying to kick a field goal, even against Bye.
