Sure, he should. But I didn't think he would, and there was good reason for thinking that. Not sure why they decided that was their best bet. NC State's running game was giving that stout D all they could handle.

So of course they try to throw instead, it goes horribly, then they try to kick and that goes horribly. Then they try to throw again in overtime, and yeah...
 
The offense remains close to taking it to the next level, but can't seem to put together a full 60 minutes. They looked great the first quarter. Looked flat much of the rest of the way. I'd like to see a lot more Mills. He's getting 80-90 yards in these games even when they're not feeding him consistently. Doing a little more to establish him will open up everything else.

Defense was opportunistic once Southern's starter got hurt. Georgia Southern abused them all day long on the read option (one of the 5 or so plays Tech's defense can never seem to stop to save their lives), but once their starting QB got nicked up Tech dialed up a couple of well-timed blitzes to put him out of the game for good. The significance of that is that it made GSU completely one-dimensional and without the ability to pass the ball they weren't coming back from 2-3 scores down. I don't think I saw anything that gives me confidence they've turned the corner as a unit overall, though.
 
Georgia Southern came out with eight or nine in the box. That allowed JT to bust loose and the long pass to work. They quickly adjusted and started keeping LB's back and letting them come up quickly to make plays. This worked very well for them. And, we then began slowing down with lots of fakes and jukes and their pursuit kept us from getting to the edge quickly.
 
PJ seemed to call counter option a lot. I think sometimes he gets a play that looks good in practice and just gets stubborn with it in the game. But the fake rocket toss/QB boot was sublime.
