Looking at the AP poll because it's listed first.

Bolded teams have lost and underlined teams have won - I'll update as games are played. We're probably gonna need 10-15 teams in front of us to lose depending on how badly we beat UK. There are a handful of matchups where either team losing would fall out. Gotta cheer against all the teams that are playing teams that didn't receive any votes though.

What was the largest AP final poll jump in history to this point? I'm thinking that 12 spots has got to be close.

Going back to 2002, no more than 4 teams have fallen out of the final AP rankings in a single season. This doesn't mean it's impossible, but it's one of those "never tell me the odds" things at very best.

If Tennessee beats Nebraska, they will probably end up ranked.

Are we sure we want to be ranked? Recent history suggests otherwise :scared:

Current rank: 37

Teams that have already lost and will fall behind us:
Temple
Houston
Navy

Match-ups where we will pass the loser no matter what:
Florida vs. Iowa
Nebraska vs. Tennessee

Other teams that will probably drop behind us if they lose:
Auburn
VPISU
LSU
Pitt
USF
Utah State
Boise St
Texas A&M
Air Force
Miami

Other teams that will probably pass us if they win:
UNC
Kansas St

Texas A&M vs Kansas St cancels out because if A&M wins they stay ahead, but if "the real KSU" wins they pass us even though A&M falls behind. If we say that there is a 50% chance for each game then we can probably guess that we will move up in rank by half the number of teams in the 3rd list and drop down by half the number of teams in the 4th list (not including Kansas St and Texas A&M). That means we are likely to move up 9 or 10 spots if we win. We need some luck to be ranked I think.

Unless we put an epic beat down on Kentucky, we have no chance to get there.

Another one bites the dust with Minn upsetting WSU. Baylor beating BSU would make today as perfect as it was improbable for our interests.

And as I type this Baylor goes up with the early TD!

Everything came up GT yesterday, but I still don't see it happening. Even if the planets align, we probably only get to #26.

It's a shame that the UL/LSU game is the same time slot. We're gonna have to make the final score look good, 3+ scores probably to get the attention. But things have gone our way so far and it's something to cheer for.

That's 4 games in a row now with teams above us losing to teams with no votes. 6 teams total and you'd think we'd jump WKU even with their win. We're actually knocking on the door here.

This, but even #26 is basically impossible. If we run roughshod over Kentucky we'll get a chunk of votes and jump six or seven spots but that's probably the ceiling. But more importantly, if we do handle business then my guess is we'll start ~20th next year even without Thomas.

That's not a direct translation though since these pollsters aren't voting for the Top 40. We could have been #26 on everybody but three people's ballots to get those 3 points. Hard to tell, but it's looking like there are only going to be so many 9+ win teams and some of them will be on losing streaks.

Updated for Miami over WVU. Hopefully that was enough to drop WVU out of the polls because that will undoubtedly push Miami into the final poll. Richt literally was lobbying to be ranked in the post game interview.
