Official Who To Cheer For/Against To Get Tech Ranked Thread

Updated for Miami over WVU. Hopefully that was enough to drop WVU out of the polls because that will undoubtedly push Miami into the final poll. Richt literally was lobbying to be ranked in the post game interview.

Guy man, if WVU drops out of the polls for that game, nothing in the world makes any sense anymore. There's no way that happens.

KSU / A&M is probably meaningless right now as the winner will be above us, but Utah and Indiana are tied at halftime. Indiana winning that would be huge. Looking at how it's lining up so far, I think we're already Top 30 with a win over UK if nothing else goes our way.

The picture is clearing up now...

Top 25 teams that will drop out for sure (3)
Florida/Louisville (20/21)
Pitt (22)
Temple (23)

Teams that received votes that could fill those slots
Utah (27) Unconvincing win over Indiana, but will probably move in
Air Force (31) Play South Alabama on 12/30
SDSU (34) Beat up on #26 Houston, good chance they move in
WKU (35) Beat Memphis, I see us jumping them
Miami (36) Will move in for sure IMHO
GT (37)
KSU (38) Will be above us IMHO

Nebraska/Tennessee is probably a wash since the winner will be above us and the loser below. So if we assume KSU. Miami, and Utah will take the three slots that will open up for sure, it's down to Air Force, SDSU, WKU, and GT for any more spots. I don't see anybody that didn't receive votes jumping us for consideration. So need to be cheering hard against Air Force, USF, and LSU. LSU and USF both really need to lose for us to feel good about it. Indiana blowing that game to Utah is a real dower.

TLDR: I think we're still alive, and probably sitting at 27/28 minimum if we beat UK.

I see us finishing 27th give or take a spot. Those late UK TDs might cost us. Still could have Louisville drop out after getting dominated and maybe Auburn if they get rolled.

Oh well, finished strong and carried momentum into 2017. Great finish to the season.

There's a lot of talk about us starting out ranked next season, which may contribute to a few extra votes this season. Still don't see it happening though.

If I had to bet I'd say unranked preseason as well. Think I saw a stat where we're returning 18 guys that started at least 6 games this year, but JT5 is not one of them so we won't get the hype. Probably around #30 with some votes. But after we beat an inevitably ranked Tennessee team in the opener we'll hop into the Top 20.

We're likely ranked to create sufficient hype for the opening game.

I wouldn't be surprised. ESPN will need us and Tennessee to be ranked to drive viewership.

With JT5 leaving we are sure to not be ranked to start next season so it's safe to end this season ranked.
We play the SEC on opening weekend. Take where you think we would rank and lower that digit by 10-15.

We will absolutely be ranked. To generate interest in the national TV game and because it is critical to SECSPN that Tennessee look better if they win or less bad if we win and that requires us to be ranked.

Dont be shocked if they make us top 20.

Recent Tech experience suggests that being just outside the top 25 at the start of the season works out better in the end than being inside of it.

USF beating USCe in OT and Indiana blowing the lead late to Utah cost us. Although there were a number of things that improbably fell our way before those two. Would've been nice to have another season finish in the Top 25, but not a huge deal. We righted the ship and will be firmly in the Top 15/20 or unranked following the season opener in 2017.
