OK, let's talk about the Defense

Did anyone notice in Key’s presser this week that Sherrer has installed a new defense, he said our base is a 3-3 stack now
I heard that as well as saying with more blitz. I think that jives with what we saw against Miami and is a good option for an undersized defense which we lean towards.

I also like that Key mentioned a lot of effort was put into cleaning up tackling technique and having more guys involved in the tackle - which also looked improved against Miami.

I thought he said that sarcastically, in a "Do you think I'm stupid enough to tell you and the world (and BC) what kind of a defense Coach Scherrer is putting together this week" kinda way. I may not have heard it correctly, but I didn't think he was serious.

Yeah, it might have been said in jest. Game notes have us listed as 4-2-5 for what it's worth. What seemed to help against Miami was us stacking the tackle box and bringing the blitz. The added pressure seemed to help Brooks and King follow the ball better as well. I'd like to see that continued against BC.

Yeah he got me, but now BC has to be wondering...

Playing Backyard football doesn’t seem ideal for defense, We Ded.

How many times have we heard this line about making the defense "simpler"? Seems to me that our defense has been too simple.
He’s gotta find *something* to write about. Guy’s gotta make a living.

more likely the defense is just poorly instructed/taught making simple more difficult in all these cases.

“We need to make our defense more vanilla. I’m talking as plain as possible.”

This is what I hear when coaches talk about simplifying.

"Offensive coordinators will be able to diagnose what we're doing and adjust before the end of the first quarter, but at least our guys will be where they're supposed to be while we give up 45 pts."
