BOR:
A reliable source reported last night that something has changed in the situation with Fisher and he will not be interviewing. Don't know what that can be, but it sounds as if FSU has him locked up pretty securely if he isn't interviewing for the GT job.

Based on everything I know which is limited, but has been confirmed through a variety of sources:
Muschamp interviewed yesterday. Hatcher and Edsall are supposed to interview today.

Cutcliffe has contacted GT about the job opening.

Charlie Strong will possibly be interviewed as well.
Also, Tenuta very well may be retained as DC in all of this if he for some reason didn't become our head coach. But if he is not, look for him to go to South Carolina with Spurrier.

Also, apparently Giff Smith, Charles Kelly, and BJ will all be retained on the new staff regardless. That is excellent news.

My impressions..

Last time we went shopping for head coaches, we didn't have near as good a short list of names. Last time the search dragged on. Last time we had no where near the level of organization, or urgency, and no where near the sense that stuff was getting done. Last time we didn't hear about coaches actively seeking out Tech, nor did we hear that Tech was actually refusing some of them.

Maybe some of that is because we knew it was coming this time around, but still.. This search kicks the crap out of the last coach search. Points for DRad.

I remember last time when Greg Garrett indicated in very strong terms that Frank Beamer was coming here.

And I remember how jacked everybody was.

We are so far beyond that now its comical.

DRad kicks butt and takes names.

Well he's been preparing for this situation long enough and this is how you execute a plan.

By the way, as of yesterday I had heard that Fisher was going to be interviewed which somehow got changed in a short period of time. Regardless, this may be an attempt to keep something under wraps, but according to a reliable source, Fisher is no longer a candidate.

Paul Johnson is not a candidate for the GT job. Don't know why either way but have heard a lot of scuttlebut reasons, mainly his buy out would hurt us too much and not allow for $$ to top assistants.

Rumors were flying that we had contacted Spurrier, but I think we are interviewing his DC Tyrone Nix which would make sense. Nix would be the minority candidate.

As some of you may or may not know, Paul Hewitt is president of the BCA, so I knew we would be interviewing a minority candidate for the job. It is obviously Nix, and we may be interviewing Charlie Strong as well but I haven't confirmed any of that.

What I do know is Muschamp, Hatcher, and Edsall will all have been more than likely interviewed by the end of the day today.

AHA!

Since we all know Nix isn't qualified, and won't get the job, then that would seem to indicate that we already know who we're going to hire.

Agree?

Be that as it may, the "reports from reliable sources" last time around were all about WR coaches at Green Bay and other entirely less interesting candidates.

I would never suggest he isn't qualified. I don't know that. I just makes sense with Hewitt being pres of the BCA that we are definitely going to interview one or more minority candidates and by all the smoke that is out there, Nix is more than likely one of them. I would have to imagine that Strong is too.

If I had to take a guess right now on who we are going to hire, it is Muschamp with Giff Smith promoted to DC and an outside shot at hiring Hatcher as the OC. If this happened, I would be happy.

Since this thread is praising our AD.....

Ruh-DACK-uh-vich

Rad-uh-coh-vich

Which is it? I thought it was the former, and then ESPN used the latter when covering CG's firing.

No way is Hatcher going to work under Muschamp or anyone else for that matter. Muschamp got his start in coaching working under Hatcher as his DC. I don't think Hatcher would leave GSU for anything short of a BCS conference HC job or in other words $700K plus salary.

Braine thought that we had enough support to be a good program. We needed a coach who would endure the academic requirements. We needed a coach who would have us ready to compete when the conference was down, and a coach who would get us to a bowl when the conference was up. Braine wanted a long term coach. He sold the program a good place for an established coach to retire a winner.

The things that Braine got wrong:
  • We couldn’t recruit better than 10th in the ACC
  • The fan base would be happy with the occasional run at conference title
  • String together minor bowls with the occasional good bowl would satisfy the fans
DRad seems to be selling our program as a big stage. We are a good program. If you come here and succeed you will be able to pick your top shelf job. We don’t offer the same risks as a Duke or Baylor. Tech can compete for a BCS bowl in very little time. Tech is a very visible job and its success will be noticed. The ACC offers an opportunity for immediate success (see BC).

Things DRad is assuming:
  • Tech can continue to recruit at a high level
  • The fan base will endure a losing season next year, if the team shows improvement throughout the year
  • If Tech produces a winner, we will have the support to retain our coach (ala WV)

Believe it or not......

The former was the originally-correct pronunciation, but someone started using the latter in referring to the family and it ended up sticking.

If you think about it, the former would fit in with the pronunciation of similar Serbian (Yugoslav) names.

I just know how Wes says it, not some EuroSlavs... :P

Is this your guess from something you've heard or just something you would like to see happen? That would be like hitting the mega millions lottery in my book. If it's as successful as I think that line up would be, after 4 or 5 years and 1 or 2 ACC championships, a FB factory swoops in and takes Muschamp, then you slide Hatcher right into the HC seat with some Div1 coordinator experience and GT acclimation. That could set us up for the next 10 or 12 years.

Icing on the cake would be to get Collins back from bammer.

Excuse me?

How is this list of candidates superior to the possibility of hiring Frank Beamer circa 2002?

And we were exceptionally close to hiring Beamer per my sources.

With all the praise of D Rad, why does everyone say this job search is going so much better? I havent heard anything official. All I have heard is what everybody is saying that he said she said. I am a huge D Rad fan, but why does every1 think this is going so good?
