Okay, one thing that's definitely different this time around...

B/c of the things DRad has said(while not much, it has alluded to some things)...the connections we all know DRad has...the way DRad has already started turning the place around...

Why do you think it's not going good?

I dont think it is going bad at all. I didnt know if I missed something or what? I didnt know if D Rad made an announcement about how things were going or how they were going to go. The way people were talking, he did something that impressed them. For me, all I have seen in the process is other people saying things they heard from inside sources. I feel confident in Rad, but I would like for him to say something official, like who they are looking at how long he expects it to be, etc....

BOR:

My impressions..

Last time we went shopping for head coaches, we didn't have near as good a short list of names. Last time the search dragged on. Last time we had no where near the level of organization, or urgency, and no where near the sense that stuff was getting done. Last time we didn't hear about coaches actively seeking out Tech, nor did we hear that Tech was actually refusing some of them.

Maybe some of that is because we knew it was coming this time around, but still.. This search kicks the crap out of the last coach search. Points for DRad.
It was done by Pompous Dave Braine thats why- although he did bring Tom Obrien to the Committee and they shot it down, instead Morris brought Gailey to Braine and Braine thought he was Bobby Dodd...

i think that the chances of tenuta being hired will greatly improve if he can beat cal in the emerald bowl but they will decrease if he loses

I think the decision will be made long before the bowl game...

Agreed...DRad hasn't said much, but what he has said seems to be all for the positive. Also our insiders on this board have some great...uhhh...inside knowledge.

In the "please confirm this" thread, one of our more prominent insiders has said a lot of good things including that SEC and ACC coach's have all contacted US about the job, not even the other way around. so if we're turning people away that can't be a bad thing.

DRad seems to be selling our program as a big stage. We are a good program. If you come here and succeed you will be able to pick your top shelf job. We don’t offer the same risks as a Duke or Baylor. Tech can compete for a BCS bowl in very little time. Tech is a very visible job and its success will be noticed. The ACC offers an opportunity for immediate success (see BC).

Things DRad is assuming:
  • Tech can continue to recruit at a high level
  • The fan base will endure a losing season next year, if the team shows improvement throughout the year
  • If Tech produces a winner, we will have the support to retain our coach (ala WV)

Exactly. The last 2 good coaches at GT won big (O'Leary, Ross). One was offered the world by the NFL and the other was offered the most prominent college job. It isn't rocket science.

This is not a rebuilding effort. The foundation is solid. There are enough talented and smart kids out there to come to Tech: this ain't the 1970s or 1980s anymore. Kids are smarter these days and get their grades. A really good coach could have Tech competing for a BCS bowl birth in year 2.

+1 Could have happened the last time we just chose poorly.

Re: Excuse me?

And we were exceptionally close to hiring Beamer per my sources.

Beamer was offered the job (mainly b/c of his relationship with individuals at Tech) and took about 30 seconds to turn it down. So yes, Beamer was offered the job. He was not at all interested. It was never even close to happening.

Heck, the one before Ross (Curry) got the Alabama job and he was not even that good.
