Ole Miss Pre-game thread

Sir you’re thinking of Mississippi state. Not ole miss.
Ole Miss is just a nickname for Missississippi State. Obviously that state wouldn’t have two P5 football programs there’s only like 400,000 people that live there.

I had a job offer years ago in Mississippi, maybe 30, where their best selling point was "there's nothing here"

Dude, I wasn't going to say a damn thing about the "we need some genetic diversity in this state. The family trees here are one branch" part of the offer.
This is actually a pretty good idea. Go around to small Nowhere, USA towns offering to enhance the local gene pool. Even if it doesn't work, in any given town there are a hundred girls with daddy issues and daddies who look like you.

Ole Miss seems like a school where people go to the games to see and be seen, but not actually watch the game.

Mississippi is the place for me.
Folks are closer there, genetically.
Find a cousin and you've found a bride!
Keep Manhattan, just give me a double wide.

Ole Miss Rebels have a tendency
To view farm animals romantically.
Goats and horses make you pay a price,
But heaven knows those pigs and sheep are nice!

I have always liked Ole Miss since I was a kid back when they had Jake Gibbs, Doug Elmore, Glynn Griffing, Perry Lee Dunn, Jim Weatherly ( aside here for Weatherly he is the only All SEC QB to pen a #1 song on Billboard) Stan Hindman, Jim Dunaway Billy Carl Irwin.
They have been my 2nd favorite team after GT & back in the late fifties thru the early sixties they were as good as any team in college football under Johnny Vaught.

Dodd beat Vaught in the Sugar Bowl to cap an undefeated 1952 season and win the national championship. There's a lot of video from that game on YouTube.

Starkville is Miss State. The grove is in Oxford, which should not be confused with the English town that has an actual university.
You're very confused. The team we're playing is the State University of Mississippi, located in Starkville, which has absolutely nothing to do with Oxford, a small city in the south of Switzerland known mostly for its olives.
