Oline

36-48" first step vice 24-36"

"Short, choppy steps" develop more power and are more under control and balanced than the long stride which is easily defeated by a DL.

Oklahoma board drills, a ton of chutes, and reps are the only way to cure this.

OK - I'll ask. What in football terms is "overstriding"?

I would agree with it. Clemson is terrible. I don't know what effect rallying around Dabo had, and we did have to play in Death Valley which has a great home field advantage, but as a team I would say UVA and Miami are both better than Clemson.
Clemson's defense is not terrible.

There defense is actually very good. We will not face any faster defensive ends the rest of the year.

If Clemson had a decent Oline, they would easily be the best team in the ACC. They have as good a defense as there is in the conference and we know they have plenty of skill, they are just awful on the Oline and that is why they are 1-3 in the ACC but they are far from awful and they played a decent game against on Saturday. They are a Top 15 team easy with their '06 OL.

So is VT, and we outright lost to them.

We are the weakest 1 loss BCS team in the country, most likely. Except for maybe FSU, but their defense is pretty darn good.

I am hoping these past two posts are just a bunch of sarcasm. We are a helmet-to-helmet penalty away from being undefeated and ranked in the top 10. I like our chances.

I don't think Clemson's D is that great. I just think the offenses in the ACC are THAT BAD.

Help me out here, I just can't figure out which option we should choose:

1) Run Away!: forfeit the rest of our games and save the horrible embarrassment?

2) Preemptive Strike: fire an offensive coach

3) Quick step: ask refs to not stop the clock so its not as embarrassing?

4) Call Northwestern: we could trade teams with the next worst one loss BCS team. What about Pitt? Boston College? I know we beat BC--maybe they'll trade teams. After all, we might have beat them at their place but they are still better!

I too am just devastated by our 6-1 start. I just don't know how to take the fact that we've had to suffer close wins and only a few blow outs. It is unbearable.

I don't think we'll ever win again. Ever. We should fold.

Good grief. Lighten up people. Don't put a win in the W column too soon and don't put an L in the L column either.

I was glad to see A.J. Smith overcome the Frosh. last week on the depth chart to become a starter...He would give us 3 Red Shirt Seniors as starters. I know pre-season P.J. said A.J. had the best intial burst of any of the lineman. I know someone mentioned he had a tough day against Clemson but, I think with him only back healthy for one week that he may shake off the rust and provide a big boost over the next tough 5 game stretch.

Thought I remembered seeing A.J. limping off the field against Clemson - Was that just a minor tweak and he'll be back for UVa?

Thanks John for the info. I am beginning to see the picture, I think. Our guys are still learning the new technique required for this offense. But trying to stay low, losing balance, and DL's falling on them, as I read somewhere. Since technique is bad, PJ can not run the splits as wide as he would like, and the middle gets clogged with all that beef on the ground. Am I wrong?

I think this shows it will take a while to shake off the effects of the previous regime.

AJC reports
Injuries
Senior guard has missed the last two days of practice due to illness and will not start Saturday, Johnson said.
Redshirt freshman Joseph Gilbert, who started the first six games until Smith replaced him, will reclaim his starting spot.

That dude is hurt every game. I feel sorry for the kid.

It is effects from the concussion he suffered when his helmet was ripped off toward the end of the Clemson game. he has to pass the test first or he cannot practice.

I don't feel sorry for him. I wish him the best if he just cannot go but I don't feel sorry for him. If he can't step up then we need somebody else to. Today. Somebody needs to step up. Today.
