On this date in 2009

I was in the lower west as they came over. You could see their landing gear, airbrake, etc. and how much they slowed down. I was shocked. Their afterburners made everything shake including your organs. It was a great fly by experience but to the detriment of the pilots' Navy careers unfortunately.
They should bring them back so we can cheer for them a 2nd time!

I knew one of those pilots (the NASA guy mentioned earlier). He lived across the hall from me in Smith as a freshman. We ran into him a few times at road games over the next few years - on the field after a Clemson game, outside the stadium at UVA, etc. Good dude and a Tech fan - too bad how things went with the flyover.

They were grounded permanently for the Navy but both had successful private careers

Military is slowly circling the drain. Yeah they should have been punished, but an Admiral got his panties in a wad and trying to impress his buddies put the hammer down. Nobody above him had the balls to tell him to wave off. Wouldn't have gone down like that back in the day when we used to have warriors running the military and the desk jockeys tending to community service and pushing useless reams of paper back at home.

4th and goal with seconds left in the game, CPJ said fck kicking a field goal we are winning this! Legendary.
Technically…4th and inches in overtime; we snuck it, there was no clock. Then scored on 1st and Goal from the 3 to win it.

Delta and NASA probably gave them better paychecks and duty assignments !

sure but they were probably the talk of the town in the Navy being grounded for something that was a 'never do that' scenario. I remember reading about it and that they had been grounded. Everyone of us thought it was cool but I'm sure when they got canned it was devastating.

Best flyover I’ve ever witnessed in person. Felt like I was looking down on them from the upper west.

That said, it was a stupid thing to do. Epic, but stupid.

The pic perfectly captures Dwyer blowing up that guy on a huge block to get the TD run. Awesome
