On this date in 2014....

Love CPJ or hate him, we sure did have some big and memorable games under him.

I’ve yet to meet a Tech fan who hates him. I know many who can appreciate him and everything we accomplished under him, and also be ready to move on from the scheme.

Also, the big games will be back.

We have always had big victories at GT. We had some great victories under Chan "Son of a gun....he has lived up to the billing.....and the legend of Calvin Johnson is born"

What a game. I remember it being a late arriving crowd because it was packer around my section. I was sitting somewhere around here....

Interesting that Shaq Mason ? at left guard had his left hand down in OL when no one else did.
Did they leave a wide hole or what there left of ctr? hmm

Great at what he did, no doubt. But failed when he tried to evolve his O to incorporate new sets.

Also, never had a clue about defense.
also wrong.
you know he got his start in college as a defensive line coach, right?
Friend of mine reminded me of this the other day. After the 1998 national championship game, when Georgia Southern gave up 55 to a UMass team it should have drubbed, PJ said in the press conference afterward, "We will be better on defense next year. I promise you."
Spent the entire spring practice after that on the defensive side.
Southern had a top 10 D in 1999. Held 9 of 11 regular season opponents to 17 points or fewer. Gave up just 91 points in four playoff games.
The man knew defense, too. He just wanted to have somebody on the other side he could trust to handle it. Never quite had it with Wommack, cashed out Groh after the MTSU debacle and I think he liked CTR but wasn't wild about his prevent-style of D. Who knows what Woody could have done in a second year? From the Pittsburgh game to the UVa game, we played pretty well on D quite a bit.

Our defensive woes were due more to lack of talent than anything else. We had a HC that wasn't a great recruiter and an administration that made it worse by constantly hamstringing us, so we just didn't have the playmakers. You can beat people with trickery and execution on offense, but on defense you ultimately have to be able to be strong enough to hold the point of attack and fast enough to run with people. We weren't.
