We are all going to be on some GT messageboard reminiscing about how we had the chance to hire Chris Hatcher, but instead we hired ___________. What were we thinking? Just think about how many games and championships we could have won if we had hired him before [Insert Random School Here]. Just think how our fortunes could have been changed by that hire.

Apparently, the one thing that GT is really exceptional at is letting the opportunity to hire good coaches slip away.

I don't know about that. I don't see too many posts about who we could have hired instead of Gailey....

It could just as easily go the other way, too.

"Man, good thing we hired _______________________ instead of Chris Hatcher back in '07. We never would have won these 4 straight MNC's."

Nobody knows the future, and hindsight is 20/20. You make your choices the best you can and live with them. People who look back and say "what if..."
are sad.

now, we dont only have to argue revisionist history but revisionist future as well???

this is getting very confusing and extremely pointless

its not like we are trading Favre to Green Bay or something

Agreed. I think WM and CH both have major futures as D1FBS coaches. I just hope they don't end up in the ACC or at Georgie.

EDIT: not saying we're making a mistake, just that WM and CH are gonna go places.

Only because Maryland had a bad year.

:)
And the fact that we had no chance at the Fridge - he had just signed a multi-year deal the prior year and told us "no" on top of that. So fans really can't complain about that one.

Kind of like how we had a chance to Hire Steve Spurrier but instead we hired Bill Lewis (right?). What where we thinking?

How about, I don't know, Paul Johnson? There was a group that wanted the 40 something HC of GSU. But I think Navy had already picked him up.

When we had a chance to hire Spurrier, we chose a Bill, but not Lewis.

Paul Johnson name was definitely thrown out there last hire, but he was not given any consideration. Probably because he did not have any D-IA experience.

we actually fired spurrier ('79 qb coach) - curry did. curry let him beg to stay and then said no thanks. hence the outcomes of the uk uf meetings in the 90s.

Oh geez....sound familiar? So we could've gotten him a hell of a lot cheaper 6 years ago? Hmmm...

No, I think the timing worked out poorly last time. IIRC, Navy had pretty much wrapped him up by the time we started looking.

Hatcher is a good one too. I wouldn't mind him, if PJ falls through. But I would be a whole lot more comfortable with Hatcher if this was his 3rd year at GSU and not his first. He probably has the biggest up side of all the choices (not that he will win more than PJ, but that he will sell more tickets with just about the same number of wins). But he is also the riskiest choice without much of a Div 1 track record.

Out of the Gailey hiring, I'm glad that we didn't end up with Tom O'brien instead. Of course IMO that's sort of like saying you're glad you painted a wall off-white instead of white.

This thread does make me wonder what Coach MacWhorter has been up to though. Anybody know?

Note how nowhere except Stingtalk have we heard that we had a chance to hire Chris Hatcher, although JTS is projecting revisionist historians to claim that we did have that chance.

I've most definitely heard this from the Revisionist Historian camp:

If only we had seized our opportunity to fire George and promote Ralph, we could have won an ACC Championship.

Whether the opportunity to do so actually existed or not is immaterial to revisionist historians. That's why they're revisionist. They get to make up whatever BS they want, to compare the real world to.
