how important is it to avenge the three regular season losses from last year? Does it factor into CPJ's thinking at all? UNC down--VPI and UVA to go. The goal of undefeated at home takes care of VPI; breaking the hex in Charlottesville handles UVA.
Regardless of what else happens beating Virginia in Charlottesville is a Yukonwreck leadpipe lock. Take a cash advance on your Discover card to make that bet.

We have VA Tech, FSU, Duke, WFU and UVA left on our conference schedule this fall. Only VA Tech will be favored. The other four we really should beat - FSU included - unless they resurrect things between now and then. If we do, that would leave us at worst 6-2 in the ACC. I think that may just win us the division, however, losing to both Miami and VA Tech would make it difficult if that's the way it breaks out.

MSU looks a lot tougher than they did last year.

Plus they know some guy who knows how to stop our offense.

Revenge is overrated. Why do we need a reason (other than established team goals) to win certain games?

Beat UVA, VT and UNC because you need to in order to meet your first team goal of an ACC Championship. This year's goals are more important than anything that happened last season.

I think that had a lot to do with the way Miami played against us.

Plus, anything to get an edge to the game preparation. I bet CPJ reminds them of their two-decade long streak of futility in Charlottesville the entire week before the game. He'll probably even laugh about it - going around the lockerroom saying:

"You guys can't win up there. They OWN you up there! Ha Ha Ha"

I can see CPJ doing that. And having it work.

Don't we have some guys on the team who weren't BORN the last time we won in Charlottesville? We haven't won since 90 have we?

If that's true it's probably my fault. I remember watching the game and asking God to let us win and I didn't care if we didn't win again up there for 20 years.

+1 , Regardless of revenge games or no, winning the ACC championship is most important. Miami's game hit us hard in the face, but now its GT's team and fans time to contribute to getting the edge in the our division.

.

I don't. We played 3 games in 13 days and Miami had nearly 2 weeks between games - our D and O lines were (visibly) gassed 1Q into the game. Miami was fresh on both lines. We got no pressure, couldn't stop the run and couldn't open up lanes for our own running game.

Of those three games (UNC, VPI, and UVA), I'm happiest that we beat UNC. They tried to run up the score, make us look bad, then had the gall to say they had us figured out. I think we shut a lot of people up with this Saturday's game. Now, VPI will be a big challenge, but this game has been circled all off-season. Everyone - even before the season started - knows the ACC Championship goes through Atlanta. We nearly beat them last year only 3 games in. I'm pretty sure we'll have a few surprises for them. The question is can we keep Ryan Williams from tearing us up. If we get TOP control like we did this Saturday, keeping them off the field then that can only help.

GO JACKETS!

Disagree to an extent. The revenge factor is a great motivator. It was apparent, regardless of our play, from the beginning Miami was very motivated to beat us. Sure, we were gassed but its an excuse and I highly doubt PJ said to his players, "Its ok, we were tired, we were bound to lose this game." Its not like we played on a Saturday then Thursday. We had seven days rest. I don't care if we had played 3 games in 3 days, our performance and execution was unacceptable. PJ would tell u the same thing. If you think the trashing we gave UM last year had no affect on this years game, you're crazy. They wanted us bad, they were motivated, and it showed on the field.

It's not an excuse - it's a reason, a disadvantage. A disadvantage that we were not good enough to overcome. Great teams overcome adverse conditions - we're not there yet.

I guess revenge matters some. It can serve as motivation for preparation for the game. But if you're preparing for some opponents more than others it can hurt your larger goals (Miami is a perfect example - if they put all of their eggs our basket it certainly showed against VT).

We're an example too. After we beat UGa, we didn't play with the same intensity against LSU. Had those games been reversed somehow, I think we would have been much more focused against LSU.

I agree on the comment with Miami, I will also add our Defense wasn't optimally configured.

As far as UVA goes. I hope we score 50+ points. UVA fans aren't typically jerks, but they're, hmmmm, somewhere between arrogant and passively arrogant, and that pisses me off.

I can't wait to bury those collar popping fools.

One exception to your comment is UGA 08. But I will agree we need to more consistently overcome adverse conditions.

+1. Revenge makes for an emotional rollercoaster and the drop off after a big win is killer. Miami had lost to us so many times, but were used to beating VT. We need a consistant high level of motivation that comes from long term goals with a little bit of revenge sprinkled in.
