Probably the only way they could get the votes to pass it. Who would vote for a glorified expanded SEC/B1G tournament otherwise? Make the at-large teams play it off to get into the final group. This is a big deal. This may basically save the ACC/Big 12/Pac 12. If the rules applied today, Clemson and Utah would be in the top four. Wonder how the SeCheat let this happen?
We’re the only P5 conference getting 1 team in. Not sure how this saves the ACC. The SEC will get 3-4 in each year, and will likely push 2-3 into the final 4 most yearsThis is a big deal. They make money and guarantee a 1st round bye, they ain’t going away. The players are getting paid so who cares anyway? I personally want more cfb games not less...My two cents, with a potential 4 game playoff I think there are too many games, I could see eliminating the conference championship game and just giving that bye to the 4 top regular season champs. Although as conferences are eliminating divisions you run less risk of a situation like the SEC Saturday. If it had been no divisions and instead been #1 v#2 it would have been a UGA vs UT rematch. Instead they got an LSU team that had 1 good win and a lot of bad losses.
Those championship games are big money-makers so I know it's hard to give them up.
FSU is trending upwards and Clemson could come back to elite status once they divorce themselves from the Uigelelei (sp?) disaster. UNC has a future first round pick as a freshman QB so they could play into this too the next couple of years. I thought that Cristobal was the right choice to bring Miami back but man this year really showed how bad things are down there. We’re the only P5 conference getting 1 team in. Maybe. In the CFP era, 9 years, the ACC would have only had 2 teams in a 12 team playoff twice (15 and 17). In both instances the second team would have been the 12 seed, barely making it in. In most years we’ll be a 1-bid league.FSU is trending upwards and Clemson could come back to elite status once they divorce themselves from the Uigelelei (sp?) disaster. This is the first time we were only getting one. Hell in 2014, GT would have been the 12 seed. We’re the only P5 conference getting 1 team in. Not sure how this saves the ACC. The SEC will get 3-4 in each year, and will likely push 2-3 into the final 4 most years
Maye definitely hit a wall and yes, Sam Howell was long projected in the first round until a shaky final season started opening up questions about his game translating to the NFL. Maye, though, appears by all counts to be a much better NFL prospect than SH.Maybe. In the CFP era, 9 years, the ACC would have only had 2 teams in a 12 team playoff twice (15 and 17). Maye looked like öööö down the stretch. IIRC, Sam Howell was a “future first round pick” at UNC too.
What I'm saying is, if the guaranteed 1st round bye goes to the conference champion, not playing a conference championship game would be more fair. Think about it, What if LSU had beat uga Saturday. For one, LSU would now have a playoff spot even though they finished 4th in the overall standings. That also would have taken away another teams birth. Looking at this year it would have knocked out Penn State (Tulane would still be a G5 representative). The conference championship game going forward simply provides a chance for an otherwise undeserving team to shock the world and get a bid. Maybe no one cares, but the first time a 10-2 Georgia Tech is knocked out because an underdog won the Big Ten championship game, you'll care. They make money and guarantee a 1st round bye, they ain’t going away. I agree, we only have 1 team in if everything plays out the exact same. But it could be even worse. We’re the only P5 conference getting 1 team in. Not sure how this saves the ACC. The SEC will get 3-4 in each year, and will likely push 2-3 into the final 4 most years

Just curious, where are you seeing this reported?
I agree. Most people on here have been wanting Conf Champ to be the first round of an expanded playoffs. This is prob the closest we will get to having that.I think overall this is better for college football than taking the first 12 ranked teams into a 12 team playoff. That means nobody’s season is done after losing 2 games or even 3 games. Just win your conference and you got a shot at the title.
Money is the crack of college football. They will never give that up.My two cents, with a potential 4 game playoff I think there are too many games, I could see eliminating the conference championship game and just giving that bye to the 4 top regular season champs.
