Only one bye week this season?

It appears that the season is more compact due to the calendar. Labor Day last year was 9/1 and Thanksgiving 11/27, but this year Labor Day is 9/7 and Thanksgiving 11/26, so there is one less week during the traditional season.

We don't schedule games on labor day weekend?

We don't schedule games on labor day weekend?

Yes, that is the traditional first weekend of the college football season. The regular season usually ends for most teams the Saturday after Thanksgiving with conference championships the following Saturday. This year, this traditional time period is one week shorter than it was last year. That means we either play one fewer game, or lose a bye week, or start the season in August.

The fact that we do is why it's a week shorter. Labor Day is the first monday of september, and college football always starts on labor day weekend (or the Thurs. before it). However this year, September 1st is a Tuesday. That kinda screws the whole thing up.
