Our D Line vs their O Line

I am not going to rehash the game, I was there like many of you. Upsetting to get beat but let's face it, they are a darn good team (as a ref I must say that crew was terrible, too many questionable calls).

That being said, the game was lost in the trenches like most games. Their O line did a wonderful job picking up our blitzes. Their D line was getting a huge push all night and disrupting plays from the first quater on. Seemed to me their strategy was hold our guys if you have to. A first and twenty following a holding is better than having your ace qb getting nailed by Wheeler or Guyton all night and fumbling.

I wonder if we will continue to see teams put in two tight ends and hold like crazy to stop our blitzing the rest of the season? Seriously, why risk your qb getting hurt and having a second and 18 or a turnover when you can hold and worst case repeat the down 10 yards further back.

While I tend to agree with you, the other teams in the ACC don't have the personnel that BC has. Furthermore, while I've noticed that Tenuta is bad at adjusting his defense DURING a game, he is excellent at making adjustments AFTER a game.

I would say that, if the holding's actually called, keep blitzing. A 1st and 20 is still better than a 2nd and 10 after an incompletion, probably the best case scenario after rushing 4.

Other teams won't have such an easy time with 1st and 20 either. For Ryan, that just seemed to pad his passing numbers.

C4t, I agree with your assessment. It appeared to me that they dared the refs to call it or knew they wouldn't. The refs didn't seem to call it very often against BC in critical situations/ big plays. But it seemed when Tech had a big play, they would just make stuff up.

This is the first time I had seen this crew at BDS@HGF. Was this a former Big East crew? If so, their officiating makes sense. Only the PAC10 has bigger homers.

Anyway, it was good practice for what we'll experience when UGa comes to town.
