Maybe I am the only one who thinks this, but I thought our defensive line played great last night. They contained Spiller(holding him to 87 yards is good) and got good pressure on the Parker. DMorgan was a beast and Egbuniwe played great last night. I don't remember Spiller or Harper breaking any long runs last night off of carries. Hope our defensive line continues to improve. Kudos to them they played great last night. I couldn't even hear myself yelling in the stands lat night. It was SOOO loud. One of the loudest GT football games I've ever been too and i've been to every home game since 1998(i was in the 2nd grade then... now a freshman in college).

I thought Miami last year was loudest, and then last night and F$U last year were about the same. All 3 of them were loud.

... You know, speaking of F$U last year, we kind of did the same thing last night.

Our DL played great. They just wore down. That happens when,

1) You spend the entire 1st half pass rushing
2) You are way lighter than the OL across from you

I was also impressed with the DL. I was worried about them coming in. They were overmatched. They did fine.

Morgan was an absolute beast. SOOOO quick of the snap. That's clearly his greatest weapon, but it also helps to be big, fast, strong, and smart.

Peters had his best game. I thought he played well. Same goes for Egubinwe. They made some big plays.

I didn't see anything notable from the other guys from the stands. I'm going to catch the replay to verify.

I listed it in the JSU after game thread about positives coming out of that game. I say it again. He is a beast!:eek5:

I watched a replay this morning and confirmed what I saw last night..If D Morgan was not in the game there was zero pass rush for the most part, and our DL got pushed around quite a bit all night. I'm not sure if more blitzing is the answer, but we could be in big trouble. MB had probably his worst game as a Jacket, he was out of position, missed tackles, just not a typical MB performance. At this point I'm much more concerned about our Defense than the trouble we are having throwing the football. We might as well face the fact that we're going to give up quite a few points this year I'm afraid.

I'm astounded by this comment. We threw 14 passes and completed 2 and had 3 interceptions. Yes, our defense gave up 3 touchdowns...but that is not so bad against the Clemson offense. Our offense however had NO balance last night. This diminishes the effectiveness of the TO. You can look across our last 14 games and the games where we executed the TO the best are the games where we had a decent passing game. The teams that have been effective against the TO are those teams that we faced when our passing game sucked.

What??? Let me ask you, how many times did we throw against UGAg in the second half? How many times did we throw against UM? The offense does NOT need balance coming from passing to make it work successfully. In my opinion the biggest key to making the offense run well is to balance the inside and outside plays. When our dive doesn't work, it makes our offense not work well, because they can focus on the pitch guys on the outside.

Passing balance is only needed if we can't run it inside or outside, which was the case a couple of times last night. But theoretically we shouldn't ever need to pass the ball if the offense is working well.

Honestly I'd say in the games last year, the games we had the MOST trouble in are the ones where we abandoned our run in favor of trying to pass more. Just like I think we should have passed less against Clemson. We didn't establish what we do, on 2nd and long we were FAR too quick to try and pass rather than maintaining the run. When Nesbitt wasn't on for the 2nd and long pass, then we were stuck in 3rd and long situations.

We completed 3 passes. We completed 3 against Miami and one against UGA last year.

This isn't entirely true. Morgan had 10 tackles and 3 sacks all by himself. The other five dudes only accounted for 11 tackles, two for losses, and no sacks. If Morgan is out or double teamed we're hurtin' bad.

good D stat:
clemson total first downs 13
third down conversions 7/19 (37%)

our D made them work for every first down they got... busted plays notwithstanding

not so hot O stat:
GT 15 first downs
3/14 on third down(21%)

Morgan had all 3 sacks in the first half. Clemson changed blocking schemes in the second half. Morgan got tired, and the pass rush became ineffective. Wommack did not adjust until Clemson scored 17 points.
