Overrated SEC

Why is the SEC accurately thought of as the best football conference in America?

#of SEC wins in the BCS since it's inception?
#of ACC wins in the BCS since it's inception?

You can like or dislike that as a mesuring stick....but that is why.

these are the exact SEC fans that I get into arguments with. One team's performance in a bowl game is not an indicator of the strength of the conference.

no one has ever disputed that UF was the best team in the country last year. the point was, top to bottom, the SEC was not the best conference.

Just because you have the best team doesn't make you the best conference.

I thought the PAC 10 is the best because of USC. I'm sure just like UGA uses UF, that's what Oregon or other PAC 10ners say. Right? No? OK

Note: My apologies to Oregon fans for using you in comparison to UGA fans.

The acc hasn't won since fsu beat the hokies...so the percentage isn't good. Since the acc went to 12 teams their winning percentage is .....0%.

Pardon me, I misread your point. You meant in the Championship game. I thought you meant the record against other BCS qualified conferences since the inception of the BCS.

The SEC had the two best teams last year, Florida and LSU. With UGA's bowl win and Ole Miss finishing strong they along with Alabama would join Va Tech as the "top 6" teams from the two conferences. That is the argument for the SEC as the best conference, in a nutshell.

I think Georgia Tech, UNC, and BC were probably next. And, I think our bottom seven - NCSU, Wake, Clemson, the U, UVA, Duke, and Maryland were every bit as good, IMO better, than their bottom seven of Miss St, Auburn, S Carolina, Tennessee, Vandy, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

Was the SEC better last year? Yes. Was the gap as wide as SEC fans and media woould like you to believe? No way. They were better at the top. We were as strong or stronger, top to bottom.

Let's see...if you're talking about regular season vs BCS teams then that is obviously wrong. If you were only talking about during the Bowl games, then you must have forgotten VPI winning against Cincinnati, so again, obviously wrong.

These are some off the top of my head. But they're a better conferance, because they fill up 80,000+ stadiums with assholes and debutants.
I think this is more along the line of the reason for its popularity. They have bigger alumni pools to draw from and they always have more sidewalk fans than the ACC.

SEC's overrated and the ACC's underrated. Still the SEC's the better conference, but not by as much as is commonly discussed for the various reasons stated in this thread.

No chance in **** was LSU the 2nd best team in that conference.

I am sick and tired of people saying how good the SEC is.

Florida is an exceptional team. They have special players, a brilliant coach, and a favorable schedule last year. Even still they didn't control their own destiny. Had 2 teams gone undefeated from BCS conferences, they wouldnt have won their MNC.

Les Miles is a sorry excuse for a coach. That man is sitting on a dream job with excessive amounts of talent and he's unable to get them to show up to games against Troy and Arkansas? His national championship was a benefit of being the ONLY 2 loss team to ever make it and he played a down right bad Ohio State team (I'm a buckeye fan and I'll admit we shouldn't have been there).

Ole Miss finished strong. Still in their one game against an ACC school they lost to Wake Forest...

Alabama had one of the best offensive lines I have ever seen and they still fell flat against Utah. If you're going to say a second best team in the SEC it better be the Tide. Their only losses were to the National Champions and the only undefeated team in the country. And they won @ LSU.

Georgia. Lost their only game against an ACC school at home.

I absolutely refuse to sit back and listen to this crap any more. The SEC is a conference. Not a special one.

One more thing related to this topic: Does anyone recall specific irregularities with last years final coaches poll? I remember reading something about voters doing some really absurd things, and admitting they were not paying attention to specific teams.

Any one else remember reading that?

To be clear, because incredibly you guys seemed to have missed the point...THE ACC has NOT won a SINGLE BCS game (the bowl games guys, i.e. the Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, Orange or Championship Game) since fsu beat the Hokies.

This isn't about one year....it isn't about winning the championship (see GA.'s two BCS wins since the ACC last won their single victory) game. It is about one conference annually winning BCS games, sometimes two a year, and another conference not winning one since......(say it with me now) fsu beat the Hokies.

Hey, not to argue that the SEC has more success than the ACC in the BCS, but did the shock and depression of what happened to you over thanksgiving make you block out the postseason? Or maybe in my joy I'm the one who forgot...but could you look up who won the Orange Bowl last year and let me know? I'd do it myself but I'm a little busy watching highlights of our game on youtube.

I am looking for arguments related to last year only.

My post was specifically about last year. Go back and (learn how to) read it again.

And just to clarify again before your simple mind gets confused, I am talking about last season, not last preseason. I'll concede that the SEC was the better preseason conference last year (with UGA leading the way at preseason #1).
