Paging Mr. Ryan...

If we'd gotten 5 on the draw play it would have been good, too.

Not exactly, watch the replay...it started way right and tailed left, just missing right. So technically speaking, had it been another 5 yards further away it would've curved on in...had it been any closer, it would've only missed right by that much more...this is of course assuming he kicks it the exact same way. Either way, you can't say "if...then"

Running the ball on 3rd and 20, staring down a 52 yard FG is a terrible call in every situation, period...it's a loser mentality...plus, you know their defense is going to give you at least a 10-yard cushion on the WR's.

The prudent thing is to TRUST your players, LET THEM win the game...
Which is exactly what he did. He showed trust in Travis Bell and let him win the game by not doing something stupid that would have either turned the ball over, or cost us field position.

Look, forget the play calling, forget the UVA game, Maryland game, etc...

Does anyone on here truly beleive that Chan is capable of coaching his team to a 4th Qtr come from behind victory. I guess we did vs. Miami last year...but that was also 1 of 2 teams with winning records we've beaten in the past 12 or so games (guessing here, I'm sure on of you will be happy to correct me).

Remember the NC St. game 2 years (?) ago when we were on the goal line and we threw the ball to Calvin in the endzone who tipped it up for an intercpetion? I did not call Chan out, I liked the call, its the last thing the defense expected and it puts the game in our playmaker's hands...a better pass and its game over.

So he trusted Travis bell (who has never hit a game winning field goal, or even a 52-yarder probably) but in doing so, he didn't trust 11 other offensive players, genius.

Different situation. A field goal at that time would have only given us a tie and we were first-and-goal on the 2 with time to run a full set of downs. Bell had already missed two chippies in that game and was on a streak of 5 misses in a row.

You mean like his most trusted RB who ran for no gain on second down? Or his second most trusted RB who ran for no gain on first down? Or his most trusted OL who got called for holding on third down? Or that second most trusted guy that got stuffed again for no gain on the next play? That's four straight plays that the other 11 offensive players netted a total of -10 yards...on a team that is built around running.

You're making my point for me...why did we start running when our passing game was on fire! I mean trusting QB that played probably the 2nd best half of football in his life, drove us to the 30, but then was shut down by the play calling because apparently a 42 yard FG is considered safe. Trust your QB...to be capable of throwing a 10-yard out, a 10-yard curl, a 10-yard slant! Jesus.

How in the hell can you seriously defend a draw play on 3rd and 20 from the 30!? You people sound like knowledgeable FB fans, take off your blinders!

I'm talking mindset here...I like the ballsy call, it didn't work because Ball sucked, but I liked the call.

Making your point? You said trust in the 11 offensive players. Not trust in the QB that drove us down there? And did you happen to check the drive chart for that series? Run, run, run, run, pass, run, run, run, run, run, run, penalty, run, kick.

Ballsy call? Throwing a 5 yard jump ball to a 6'5" WR who's being covered by (2) 5'11" DBs on first down when you're going to have two more shots before you have to kick for the tie is a ballsy call? What alternate universe do you live in?

Its ballsy for Chan Gailey...especially from the 2 yard line on first down...if it weren't ballsy then why in the hell did everybody bitch about it...well, nevermind, I know the answer to that.

I didn't mind the call. Hitting Calvin in the hands (or even one hand) to win the game is fine with me. The part that I HATED was the timeout that preceded that play. The NCSt players were absolutely gassed. All of the lineman had their hands on their hips panting. Our OL were pumped. It was that TO that cost us the game.

Did you write it down or something? That is impressive. Not how I remember it, but I'm sure you have it memorized better than I...all I remember is Bennett finally becoming the Bennett of the Gator Bowl....then as you said: run, run, run, run.

Fine, I digress...let's say you're right and I'm wrong, the fact remains...

3rd and 20, staring down a 52-yarder...you never run the ball unless you're winning. No way you can justify that. You think there is a bigger chance of Bennett throwing an Int. than Bell making a 52-yarder?

Forget it...I only brought it up because watching good football (last night's 4th qtr) has only made me more bitter towards the powder puff offense I have to watch every Saturday...which I will continue to do regardless.

My photographic memory brought to you by www.ramblinwreck.com. They actually have all sorts of fun information on there so you don't have to pull **** out of your ass.

I didn't say I agreed with the decision. I was just calling out whichever dumb mass (not you, unless it was you) it was that is complaining that CCG doesn't have faith in his players. He had faith in a kicker who had 2 misses all season. He had faith in his offensive line to not hold as Grant ran for the 1st down. He had faith in Deuce the ENTIRE drive. Maybe he didn't have faith in his QB who had played 21 of the season's 23 1/2 quarters like he didn't know how to throw the ball.

And yes, I think there was a bigger chance that if he didn't throw the INT, the ball would have been incomplete, leaving the same kicking situation.

"Built around running" should really be "built around running by default." We have a solid running attack, I think. we will know more after next Thursday. I believe our O-line will still be blocking and our reserve backs are not necessarily chopped liver. So we shall see. We are solid, but by no means stellar. And we run like we run only because there is very little alternative. Before the season the consensus was that our opponents would stack the box and dare TB to beat them. Bennett is improving, but he is not yet, after eight games, to be considered in the top 65 or 70 qb's in the nation. That is tough---to think that there are 65 qb's out there in other programs ---anyone of which would improve us. How did the program get to the point where basically every team in every BCS conference has a better qb than we do?

"How did the program get to the point where basically every team in every BCS conference has a better qb than we do?"

Easy:

Tech offensive coordinator John Bond recalls a play at Miami when a receiver beat two defenders but Bennett didn't pass him the ball.
"He knew we were in field goal range, and he didn't want to risk a bad play," Bond said. "Taylor's conservative. A lot of that's good, and sometimes you might be missing out on an opportunity."

That just about sums it up, FG's are our bread and butter, why pass to an open WR and risk an INT when you can kick a FG?!.
