I would have never thought I would say it but it’s true. What is our current offensive identity? We rarely establish a run game and I’m not sure what the heck is going on with our RB rotation. Dontae‘s talent has been wasted this year. I guess we are a horizontal short passing team? He’s our new Collins. Not surprising Tulane went 2-10 with Long calling plays and now they’re 8-2 and ranked in the top 25 without him. He’s been a horrible hire.

I was one of Pat’s biggest detractors, but he looks to be a better hire than Long. Our offense is conservative to the point of killing its own momentum. We will run and short pass with 10 guys in the box. Everyone run blitzes us and just leaves the medium to long balls in man to man coverage.

Patenaude lasted exactly 0 games since he got fired from Tech. Was a resign or be fired situation. Will leave it at that.

Across ten games we've had:

* A dynamically mobile QB who struggles with longer throws
* A true freshman QB who looks really solid throwing the ball but isn't nearly as mobile
* A QB who isn't mobile and can't throw the ball and probably shouldn't even be on the depth chart
* Two head coaches

And throughout it all we've had a paper thin offensive line..

I'm not advocating to bring Long back, because we haven't seen much good from him. But I also think he's been dealt a losing hand. Three very different quarterbacks and two very different head coaches in ten games with a bad o-line makes it tough to establish an offensive identiy or get into a rhythm.

I know somebody else that will be watching football from his house next fall as well.
Nah. Remember I just said Chip Long is Ted Roof of OCs. It’s not just him play calling extremely conservative. They will give him a job just like Roof keeps getting hired. Managed to somehow make Oklahoma’s defense even worse, but when he gets fired somebody will look at his resume and go hey let’s hire Ted Roof. Same thing with Long.

We struggled moving the ball against Western Carolina. There is no excuse for that. He shouldn’t be calling plays.

All I have say, is this. If I can predict what we are going to run 75% of the time, the other team can too or do better. Our offense is not only boring, its predictable.

Fair assessment of our offense this year, good observation.

Patenaude = Long. Dave provided three years of complete garbage and treated year 1 like a big scrimmage to figure out who to play at QB.
Long is better but only slightly.

I’m going to disagree with everyone and argue something different. Maybe when every coach sucks and changing coaches makes no difference…….. it might be the players.

I don't think our coaches are great; but our roster is terrible. The people who expect Key to win this season are in for a big disappointment when the next coach starts losing too. We need a bigger rebuild now than when CPJ left.

We have the players to win games in the ACC. I’m pointing out that Long sucks specifically. Actually not pointing to any other coaches as I believe some are doing really well under the current circumstances. Long individually sucks which is why Kelly fired him and why Tulane is better immediately after he left.

I think Long wants an offense that will line up in 12 personnel and push people around up front. Then kill you with TEs leaking out on routes and WR getting vertical when you overcommit to the run. It worked for him at Notre Dame… It’s basically what UGA does.

News flash, we ain’t ND. We get beat up front by a 4-man rush and don’t have a true P5 TE on our roster. Long has proven to me that he does not have a plan B. Our perimeter WRs aren’t getting open. McCollum has been a playmaker in the slot, but that’s the only receiving option I trust. RBs are replacement level at best. OL is worst in the ACC four years in a row. He’ll be gone, just like everyone else on that side of the ball.

From a coaching perspective it needs to be near complete turnover. I think Tillman has done well and I would support keeping him. Kenyatta Watson Sr is well connected and could stay. The LB coach, coach Boogie maybe could stay. Weinke I actually like, and I’d be curious how his QBs perform with better protection and receivers. Otherwise we need a total reset.

Well it shows he’s no great OC regardless. Maybe not terrible but probably no better than average.

Turns out it's pretty hard to design an offense when your OL isn't very good. Give either Patenaude or Long an average OL with the same skill players, and we average 24 points per game minimum.
