Paul Johnson and Navy beat ND and the 43 year losing streak ends!

You guys can go ahead and mark Johnson off your list I believe.

That's too bad, but so far everything DRad has done has been a good decision IMHO.

In response to everyone's options comments, I think it's pretty safe to say he wouldn't run a straight triple option if he came to Tech. Probably something more along the lines of a spread attack. I think he'd be a good fit for most of the reasons folks have already mentioned, but I'm sort of a homer as I grew up on Southern football with a dad who's a GSU alum. But apparently that won't happen anyway.

Its not about him going somewhere else like Nebraska which he might, he just wont be here. He is a good coach but I don't believe will be an option for GT. I know most people would love to have him here but it wont happen even if Nebraska doesn't take him.
:crybaby:

PLEASE don't tell me we're going to make the same mistake so many other programs have made and pass over this guy!

Yay! Maybe now we'll stop seeing Paul Johnson's name on our board. This has been going on since O'Leary left.

To the argument that the recruitment there is similar to that at Tech, I disagree. Kids that go to Navy want to go to one of the academies first. Football is second because it is just a way for them to attend an academy. Kids come to Tech because of our program. A rare few want the Tech education first. Paul Johnson's recruits show up at his door.

Yes, the academic standards are similar. However, there is less pressure at Navy to have a stellar football program. If academics are an issue, they stop playing football, and it is not a question as to the priority. This is far from the case at Tech. If kids have an academic issue they have to sit out and it ruins them and hurts the program.

Lastly, although I have no proof, I estimate that his gadget offense wouldn't work anywhere but a school similar to Navy or DII. If Nebraska gets him, I would be interested to see how it pans out. I guess that it would not work out favorably for the Huskers.

Sure, he's a good man with a presence in GA, but I don't think he has to recruit much at Navy. Therefore, I don't think it is a big benefit for him having had success at Southern. Next, I have not heard anything about him as far as national, or regional, acclaim goes. I have never seen Navy ranked during his tenure.

I am anxious to read counter points. Fire away.

I understand your points and I'll say that I don't believe PJ will end up here. I would be interested to hear your suggestions.

I still have a funny feeling that John Tenuta is going to get the job. Not that I want that.

My opinion is that all of this talk is moot. Chan will be here next year, at least. He will get a pass because of starting a "rookie" at QB. He has a new OC. He has done enough good (as far as our image and team goes) to earn him another year. Yeah, he doesn't have the winning (killer) instinct. No, he is not the long term solution to our program. However, he is playing a role in the history of our program which is to keep us competitive in a time of transition.

If I were to throw out a suggestion, it would be to the tune of Bobby Petrino. Not that I wish him failure, but if he does fail at the Falcons after next year, then he could be a viable option. Obviously he can coach at the college level. He runs the spread offense, which I think is a must for a new coach (especially with Nesbitt & Dwyer). My only problem with him is that he does not have any track record against ga, which I think should be in the criterion for a new coach. Hey, he wouldn't even have to transplant his family.

Well, if you are correct and i dont think you are, they can move the home games to Grady stadium

While we're dreaming, why not talk Petrino and Gailey into swapping jobs? They wouldn't have to move and each should feel more comfortable in their coaching environments.

Wake's gadget offense works pretty good in the ACC. Ralph's triple option offense worked pretty good too. If Paul came to Tech, with Nesbitt and Dwyer on his roster, you can be sure we would see some triple option. Maybe not the flexbone look Navy uses, but at a very minimum some 3O out of the I.

I would not be unhappy to see him at Tech next year. There are a lot of coaches I'd be happy to see at Tech next year, among those are Paul Johnson, Randy Edsall, Jib Grobe, Jon Tenuta, and Chan Gailey should he make a miraculous turnaround and win his next 4, bringing us to 2 consecutive 9 win seasons. I don't consider Chan's chances very good, though, without any sort of major improvements at quarterback.
