Paul Johnson included on the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class Ballot

Is this an attempt to ignore GTFletch’s thread on the same subject? If so, I’m in.

GTFletch counters by douching up this thread with ten straight posts. It's super effective!

I imagine CPJ will get in on the strength of his time at GSU coupled with what he did at Navy and here. Doesn't deserve it based solely on what he did in FBS, but the CFB HoF should take FCS into account as well.

Yeah, I think the body of work is deserving, in terms of dominating at Southern and resurrecting service academy football. Just an above average coach here, but with some significant high points.

Not sure we will see another coach on the flats as good as CPJ high points.
2 eleven win seasons (2009/2014)
2 BCS Bowls Appearances (2014 win)
3 ACC Title Game Appearances (2009 Win)
3 ACC Coach of the Year Awards. (2008/2009/2014)

It amazes me how he won at that level despite not having the support we see Geoff Collins getting. I am starting to think no matter what happens to Geoff Collins, the best thing from his era may have been bringing the GTAA Financial football support out of the dark ages.

Oh man, what I would do for one of those right now!! My biggest fear is that not even an "above average" coach, assuming we find one, can compete with GT's built in handicaps along with this new stuff, needing big $$ for NIL.

Where do they get these guys?

Obviously this person was born after 2000.

Quote from article:

" Along with Johnson and Richt, former Georgia Tech head coach Ralph Friedgen. Friedgen was the Yellow Jackets head coach from 1997 to 2000 before running the program at Maryland from 2001 to 2010. "

They even got the years wrong LOL. SMH.

It's WSB. What did you expect.
Especially since WSB stands for We Suck the Bulldogs off at the drop of a hat.
(It's certainly not World Security Bureau. Sorry, Frisco Jones, Anna Devane and Robert Scorpio.)

True, but at least some accurate history would be nice.

Posting highlights of great wins is douching up a thread? Not hardly.

As for the CFB HOF... if Jim Donnan is a HOF’er (he is), then it’s a no-brainer that CPJ should be.
It may say something about how unimportant being a CFB Hall of Fame member is. What is Donnan up to these days has he switched to selling Amway?

Actually I think it's more to do with the HOF trying to recognize and honor success at all levels of college football. Donnan had a very successful career at Marshall, comparable in many ways to CPJ's at Ga So, before coming to UGA to coach the team he'd dreamed about his whole life.

Since he left UGA, Donnan has been implicated in a shady financial scheme, and actually tried by the US govt for fraud, but found not guilty. He returned millions to disgruntled investors and was (supposedly) reduced to penury. My suspicion is that his wife/family/trusts still have some cash.

Remember when Loran Smith asked Donnan about the Dawgs getting heat cramps in a season opening blowout?
Donnan and PJ are actually pretty good friends, or at least were.
Sitting in PJ's office that week, he goes, "Hey, I called up Donnan this week. Left a message on his answering machine. 'Heard you guys had some problems with heat cramps this week, Jim!' He hadn't called back."

Coach Johnson deserves to be chosen.

Well Deserved
100% AGREE,
my commentary:
When the game changes the rules in response to your innovation and scheming (a la wilt chamberlain and the 3 second rule), you're a pretty big heavyweight in the game. He prompted many blocking rule changes because of his success with lesser talent and embarrassing the conventional boys.
He's what charlie Weis only bragged about doing in his own mind... (out scheming an opponent)
Broke the notre dame streak over navy, not mentioned yet, that I could see

GT won the same number of COFH games under Donnan as CPJ & took half the time to do it! Sure a season is never defined by 1 game, but you have to give Donnan credit for coming thru when we needed it most.
