Perkins' Recieving Skills

From Perkin's you tube video, they like to line him up in the slot or at WR from time to time and throw to him. He does run with enough power where he could easily play B back.

That said, Don't be surprised if he plays a fair bit at A back. That's what the coaches recruited him as, and I think his recieving skills are a big part of that thinking.

The coaches recruited him as a RB...they will figure out where to put him once he gets on campus.

At the rate he is growing...he may end up at BB, which is also somewhat the hope. He is 6-0, 207 now...which is larger than Dwyer was entering his senior year.

That's not true to my understanding. I'm pretty sure they recruited him to play A-back, but they don't have a problem if he continues to grow into a B-back body. I believe Charles even quoted that in his last interview I read (he said he was recruited to play a-back, but he may go B-back if he grows into it).

I heard the opposite.
 
I saw Perkins' film after he committed and I posted on the Hive that I thought he would make an excellent B-back.

Georgia Panther (imo, the only reliable source on the hive) said Perkins was recruited as an A-back, though the coaches also indicated he might have crossover skills.

Personally, I think Perkins is more similar to Anthony Allen than to Dwyer, in build and in skill set. For those who heard Perkins was recruited as a B-back....what is your source?
 
My bad...I went and looked up the thread referenced above. Perkins was shown as an A back on the junior day list, which is what was commented on. The coaches told Perkins he has the body to play either position.

One thing is certain though. He was not recruited expressly as a B-back a la Drummond or Watson.

It's an interesting combination of backs we have:

The super gnats: Wright & Peeples
A little more beef: Jones, J. Thomas, Chris Jackson
The crossovers: Perkins, Allen, Orwin Smith, Cox, Dwyer
The pure b-backs: Watson, Drummond, Lyons

What's amazing to me is how many of these guys are good receiving backs. My impression from film, hearsay, and observation (both live from film) is that Wright, C. Jackson, Perkins, Allen, O. Smith, Cox, Drummond, and Dwyer are all good receiving backs. Thomas showed good hands in his HS film. Roddy Jones has said he's working hard on this part of his game.

I have no clue about Watson and Lyons.

Imagine this coming year.....we move Dwyer out to AB and Allen to BB...everyone on defense is thinking "oh crap...here's the toss to Dwyer on the outside. Then 'boom'...we hit Allen on the dive and he's gone.

This could be an interesting year.
