Jesuit OL Phil Smith still plans to visit Georgia Tech this weekend despite getting a scholarship offer from Penn State.
Smith received the offer Thursday afternoon from the Penn State offensive line coach. Georgia Tech extended an offer earlier in the week, so Smith will visit their campus first. He plans on visiting Penn State next week.

We got some competition.

I do. I'm not welcome to post at either of those establishments, however.

I havent watched any film on this guy andybody know how good he really is?

Phil will be on TV...Catch 47 tonight 6pm as the featured HS athlete, if any Jacket fans have a Tampa connection...record it and post it. Think the Interveiew is on BB and Jesuit's run in the District Tournament

I think you have some old info.

Phil visited a couple of weeks ago and committed prior to leaving campus. I think he is solid to Georgia Tech. He already had the Penn State offer when he made his trip to GT.!

Go Jackets!

look at the date of when those original posts were made... I think the person just found an old thread to pitch the interview instead of creating new thread...the Penn State factor doesn't seem to have the same "merit" now as it did back on 1/18/08 when it was posted....

I saw his tapes and was impressed. Phil has a nice frame and very good feet. He seems athletic. He can get just a big as they want him to be.

Smith is solid second tier (maybe 3rd tier) from Jesuit here in Tampa. He'll be a project, but has potential to be bigger and with good coaching he will be serviceable. He's more than a big body, but he probably doesn't have the tools to all-conference.

yeah, that's the ticket...let's put down our recruits the day before signing day.

Who's putting him down? The question was how good was he? Did he get any offers from anyone but us? I don't think he did. I am not even sure he took any other visits--he went to Tech, liked it and was sold. Because of the academics, Jesuit has developed into a mini-pipeline for players (and students) to Tech. The kid that lost the UVA game this year is from Jesuit. My boss's (CE 80) son went there and is now at Tech. Phil Smith strikes me as the kind of player we need to get used to under Paul Johnson. Some raw talent, needs to be coached in our scheme, may develop into something better. We probably aren't going to get many Jonathan Ogden's, Willie Roaf's or John Davises any time soon. And especially not from Jesuit.

Hmm... How many Ogden's & Roaf's have we ever gotten? Even UGA doesn't get those types.

All State first year in the position, All County first year in Position, Captain of the County All Star Team, Captain of the Jesuit BB Team, #56 OT on Scout First Year, no OT film from last year, started both ways, 65 tackles 9 sacks.

U must be a Plant

yeah...just Penn State! pay attention Yukon!!

btw...today the coaches said at the Edge Phil Smith is even quick enough to be a good DL. They believe he will end up as big as Andrew Gardner.

You are getting bad skinny, sir. No all state, second team all Hillsborough county. Look he is a good kid, the kind we all should want, but he is not a stellar recruit. He is solid and could get better.
