Playcall or bad read

It looks to me like both plays are straight triple options. I'll repeat and expand on what's been said.

The first was a bad read imo and should have been a give to Skov. Blocking on the interior was messed up. The backside DL were able to get to Skov, and the playside LB was completely turned loose while the DT was double teamed. So, the right read, imo, still wouldn't have made yards because poor OL understanding/ execution.

The second play was the right read, but, as was said, our RT missed his block. JT should've had a nice crease because the pitch key committed to stop the pitch.

Did Skov decide he just didn't want to play anymore near the end of the season? Was he injured? Johnson's doghouse? He played one play against UGAg - last play before half.

He wasn't good at the position, tbh.

Skov got a shoulder injury about game 4. It made him a little unreliable as far as holding onto the ball in the pile. You can see a lot of games where he just let his right arm hang down after plays. He was clearly hurt.

I think the right read on those plays is to throw it to the slot receiver. Keep doing that until the DB moves closer to the line and the safety has to move away from the backside to cover the DB over the top.

I'm guessing that you know that there isn't a pass option in that play. However, it's also not a simple change to introduce such an option. The problem is that we have OL that are crashing to the second level when we block for the triple. So, if we throw a pass beyond the line of scrimmage while blocking this way, it would risk an illegal rx downfield penalty.

So who is our leader on the oline going to be this year? Will Bryan??? It seems that the experienced oline was more of the issue then injuries and youth.. Probably a reason why coach Ray was let go...

Is there any reason to think our line will be better this year without a "Shaq Mason" type leader??

Please break down this play too.

I'll hang up and listen...

On step drop. Either the slot catches it behind the LOS or the OL doesn't have time to get down the field. I would assume that that is the check that should have been made. But maybe not. Maybe the play was run as called and it just got blown up by the safety.

Yeah, I don't think we have that check-call. We do run a quick pass play to the A-Backs in the slot, but we haven't been that successful completing it.

JT5 doesn't look like he either had that checkdown or he missed. But I think it was the former.
I think it was CPJ trying to out athlete ND by going one on one to the outside. If we make a guy miss, it is a big play. But we just get beat.

Cool.
I disagree, like I said, I think it was a triple which should give us a man advantage.

Oops, that should have said 'didn't have that checkdown'. I don't think the option was there to throw to the slot receiver. I think it was just a bad playcall where CPJ was getting cute.
