What is the general format that most are kicking around when they talk about a playoff system to determine the Nat'l Champion? How many teams? Would they still play the lower-tier bowls for the teams that do not qualify for the playoffs system?

I am not asking for opinons on whether you agree with the idea, even though you are free to offer. I am just curious about the proposed format (or the general idea that most are wanting to implement).

Go for it!

There is no proposed format, and no one agrees to any general idea.

i think the only officially presented one was the "plus 1" format whereby the top teams after the bowls play one more game

Plus one is the most common, but I do not see how that would have acomplished anything this year. Someone would have gotten left out.

The only thing +1 would've done this year is pit UF against Utah. IMO that should happen, but at the same time Texas and USC should also play. +1 makes things slightly better, but it still leads to the same arguments as not enough teams have a shot to play for the title.

Not true necessarily because the same matchups would not have happened in the bowls. BCS 1 and 2 certainly wouldn't have played. Agreed that even after the bowls regardless of matchups we wouldn't have a clear #1 and #2. But OK might have won against a lesser opponent. I would still pick FL over TX.

I believe +1 is better than what we have today, at least slightly, but an 8, 12, or 16 game playoff is needed.

Depending on how they drew it up, Utah or USC or Texas may have been left out. Knowing that 4 could go, the polls may have wound up with 2 big 12 teams in the top 4. I am still ticked that a 2 loss team got to play in the NCG last year.
