Playoffs in Congress

In fairness, steroids are essentially never seen in youth baseball, but are much more often seen in high school football, so at least Obama has the sport right.

Beej, not sure which youth baseball have been around, but I have seen plenty of steroids in high school baseball/football/basketball (and travel teams as well). They all hear the hype and use it.

I went to a private high school and steroids were very present in all athletes, not just baseball. The problem with steroids is that parents are often the ones feeing them to the kids and the kids certainly don't know better. IMO, it's not a congress issue, but is certainly a deep seeded issue that has far reaching consequences.

Considering the government bailed out the banks and we had banks such as Capital One (received $3.58 billion) sponsoring bowls, the government practically sponsored some bowls indirectly. I am sure it has something to do with contract agreements, but still ... anyone who claims that the government has never had a hand in college football is highly mistaken.

Regardless, congressmen have much more pressing issues to concern themselves with at the moment, so this Congressman is a moron.

yup, but not the same as "giving away" $1 trillion, as if none of it is ever coming back.

Which is not nearly as dumb as thinking its a good idea when the government essentially nationalizes several private entities, including ones like Bank of America, who don't need it or won't it, as part of the bailout.

I think the BCS is deeply flawed. The only way it will be worse is if Congress gets involved.

Give it time, be patient, and the system will improve.

Or turn into a playoff system of its own accord.:fingersx:

Disagree. In the past 6 months Congress managed to give away 1 trillion dollars we don't have because of, in part, mistakes they made and things they did not do they were supposed to do.

I'd rather they delve into steroids and bowls and other minutiae. Its a lot cheaper to tinker with the BCS and they can't screw it up any more than it is now.

From a political blog:

BARTON AND THE BCS.... Barack Obama continues to share some of his concerns about the "Bowl Championship Series" and the need for a college-football playoff, and it appears he's not the only policy maker with an interest in this.
Texas Rep. Joe Barton -- a Texas A&M grad and Aggies fan -- agrees with Barack Obama about the need for a real college football championship game.

To that end, the top Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee is introducing legislation "To prohibit, as an unfair and deceptive act or practice, the promotion, marketing, and advertising of any post-season NCAA Division I football game as a national championship game unless such game is the culmination of a fair and equitable playoff system."
I can appreciate folks taking an interest in sports, and given recent events, I can imagine why football fans in Texas, in particular, are unhappy with the system. But I think Barton's interest is getting a little out of hand.
Back in December 2005, the Republican-led House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection -- which refused to hold substantive hearings on much of anything -- scrutinized the BCS. In December 2008, Barton unveiled a bill to force the NCAA to institute a playoff system. Now, the conservative Republican has a new bill to limit the use of the phrase "national championship game."
In defending his hearings on the subject a few years ago, Barton, then-chairman of the full committee, said, "Man doesn't live by policy alone. Sports is an important part of American society."
Perhaps, but it's certainly not this important. If Obama wants to use his bully pulpit to apply some pressure on this, fine. The BCS is stupid and some presidential nudging would make fans happy. But let's remember that it's a decision about a game for colleges to make, and maybe Barton can find some other issues of interest.

Actually, I hope this happens. I want a playoff and if Congress is busy arguing about this they can't do more stupid things.

Yeah but if Congress itself doesn't screw up the playoff system everyone else will because they won't trust a playoff system the comes from congress that congress is making because people don't trust the BCS system. :ugh:
