If Tech is 1-4 after 5 games, assuming the win is Western Carolina, and losses to Ole Miss, UCF, and Pitt SHOULD Coach Collins be fired?

Yes but with the caveat that he technically remains the head coach until the buyout is reduced but someone else actually runs the football team as awkward as that would be . So awkward he might just resign.

A 1-4 start probably seals his fate, but there remains no reason to blow 5 million on a mid season firing. You'd be doing him a favor. Everyone will be well aware of what is going to happen.

Yes! For the first time I'm on the fire the coach bandwagon and willing to donate to the cause. If 2500 fans each give 5K we can buy him out now.

Poll asks the wrong question. Question should be “if Geoff (he doesn’t deserve to be called Coach) Collins shows up for work tomorrow, should he be fired?”

Some folks just having a hard time grasping the fact that we can reassign him to janitor
I really would like to see if his contract would define that as a termination and then we'd be paying a full buyout. I suppose we'll find out. I still think we have leverage to negotiate.

I don't see any real benefit of firing him after game 5 or 6 versus at the end of the season, presuming it is based only on wins and losses. The only reason to fire midseason is if it over some off the field controversy or total breakdown in the locker room.

In all seriousness, there needs to be an Institute wide sit down and get everyone on the same page regarding athletics, especially football. From the President to the AD and all the way down, either a full buy in and commitment to excellence- which would necessitate a significant step up in resources and a commitment to getting those resources- or a step down to where we can compete given the current resources available.

Yeah, me too. I’m assuming we can do that, but maybe the contract says otherwise

I like how all these polls just assume that Tech will beat WCU.. There is chum on the artificial turf at Bobby Dodd. I think anything is possible at this point.

Gives Chip Long a chance for a mid-season interview.

Chip is a definite upgrade as an OC, but I don't really get the desire to make him a head coaching candidate. If we had to have an interim coach, I'd probably give it to David Turner, honestly. But it's much more likely the next coach doesn't come from this staff. The O'Leary scenario is not repeating here.

There is no way this would be true, unless he had the absolute worst attorney / agent in the world. Every executive contract has language that deems a material change in duties to be considered a termination. Can't imagine coaching contracts wouldn't be the same...
