On the other hand, winning those (or this year, being close) can give the program a big boost. Personally, I’d rather avoid playing those games late, since a few key injuries and less roster depth can make for lopsided losses that disproportionately hurt the public image of the team.

FHstinger does remember Tech beating #1 Alabama that day. Bill Curry had a knack for getting his team up for big games. Curry tied #1 Notre Dame 3-3 in 1980. We attended the Auburn and uga games in 1981.
