Postives and Negatives of the Chan Gailey regime (LIST THEM!)

Lonestar,
Chan puts zero effort in mingling and developing warmth with the media and fan base. He could easily harp on his poor wide receiver effort this year, but I think you'll find (my observation only) that James Johnson has been hurt all season. You'll never hear it from Chan however and considering just how little depth and experienced talent we have now at WR...most coaches would let the excuse out by now.

The same this year goes for tight end, linebacker, cornerback, RT.

In the past certainly the Reggie thing was an issue that Chan playsed close to the vest, which is great, but it also hurts his relationship with the fan base IMO.

This year, Friedgen at Maryland is also dealing with a high number of injuries, poor depth. There is an article on this every day in the paper it seems.

NEGATIVE: This man is not our head coach

Hey, I think Spurrier is one of the greatest college coaches of all time, but the week he lost to Vandy (VANDY!!!) is just a bad time to be touting him.

Positive: Bringing recruits in ( good athelets and good students)
Negatives: Does not motivate sometime(maybe all the time) the way that needs to be with young college atheletes

Vandy is a good football team. I seem to remember Chan needing OT to escape them back when they royally sucked. Of course, he also got his ass kicked by Dook...

positive; good character and image for GT

negative: the way he does things adds too much fodder of negative blogs and threads that could damage our image and recruiting. It makes us as alumni look like we are just much damn smarter than the Head Coach. Most would be forgiven if we Beat GEORGIA.

Positives: A good person; recruiting has improved; a winning record overall.
Negatives: Blowout losses, embarrrasing losses (duke); never has beaten georgia; sticking with Ball espe. vs georgia and wake.;Inability to recruit or develop an adequate quarterback;stubborn to a fault. probably will never improve.

Okay, so you are assuming that there actually ARE good reasons for his decisions and speculating about what those reasons might be. That may be true, but none of us know that without inside info.

You must recognize, however, that it is possible that they simply ARE (or were) bad decisions, and not examples of a stoic head coach refusing to explain himself. There is evidence in statements by Chan himself in the press that he is stubborn (not an uncommon trait in a HC) which could also explain some decisions.

Recruiting has been a positive, even though it took a while to have a nationally recognized class. But when it finally happened, it was like a beutifull dream. Burnett, Donley, Nesbit, Dwyer, and Claytor each would have easily qualified as the second highest rated GA prospect we have had under Gailey, and we got 'em all in the same year! Add in 4-stars Morgan, Peters, and White (4-star according to scout, at least), and it was an amazing class, and an amazing turnaround in GT recruiting. I am confident about our teams future, and that confidence is based largely on last year's class of talented prospects.

But I also feel compelled to give the Gailey and his staff credit for finding some damn good playes, NFL players even, in the more barren years. Everyone knows by now...Wheeler, Oliver, Lewis, Gardner (and basically the starting OLine), Walker, Guyton, etc. were all 2-stars, overlooked by the big teams, and have excelled at Tech.

What I find frustrating, however, is that it seems to take these guys too long to see extensive playing time. Other than Burnett, most of last years class has had a hard time getting off the bench. Nesbit, Donley, and Dwyer have all looked good to me when given an opportunity to play, the problem is they don't get enough opportunities when it counts. If all we are going to do is use a guy on ST and mop-up duty, then I would rather we redshirt them. Think back to Michael Johnson's freshman year...now look forward to next year when he will already be a senior. IMHO, we wasted a year with a playmaker on the Dline, and we just do not have the overall talent to justify doing that.
