Wow it was hot..........

I got there around 4 and was there for about an hour, it was just too hot too stand there.
I walked in and first saw the defense doing some reflex work and i guess "jumping the snap" for lack of better words. Me and my friend stood there for a moment amazed at just how big TJ Barnes was. Across the field we could see the Offense running some plays and thinking it was much more interesting we walked over.
On top of the hill there was a bench practically looking over CPJ's shoulder as the offense run through a number of plays. They actually started with a bunch of reps of passes. No one looked good, QB's or WR's except for maybe Tyler Melton and Jeremy Moore. They both had soft hands, Bebe got no passes too him except for a few poorly thrown short outs, none of which were completed.
Anyway, not a bit impressed with our passing, even though it was the first reps of the year. The Assistant coaches were also none too pleased dishing out push-ups for dropped passes. Nesbitt did not look comfy at all throwing and seemed to have been stretching his arm a little. I believe Tevin Washington completed a deep post which was pretty nice and Jaybo hit a deep out, but that was 2 out of about 30.
CPJ just stood there with his arms crossed and barely spoke a word the whole time.
After this they started running some plays without the ball and being so hot, we decided to take off.

A few notes:

Luallen seemed to have a bit of an attitude.

Dwyers calves are the size of my waist.

Our speed is incredible. From snap, to pitch, to turning upfield is at most 2 seconds.

Jaybo has a funny QB voice when he calls plays.

Our assistant coaches are like drill sergeants and are fun to watch.

Geoff Greco, poor guy, must have done 200 push ups. Seems like the coaches see a ton of potential but he is nervous.

Did I mention the heat?

Allllllllllllrighty then.

Tomorrow's another day.

What kind of attitude? Like bad attitude? Or swagger?

Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the report.

He just seemed to have a pissy attitude and a 'whatever' swagger. At one point you can tell he rolled his eyes when he turned away from CPJ who had just told him something. He kinda did the head roll which often times accompanies the eye roll. ;)

thanks for the report. Are there blog reports out there? Any one has links?

If boss is happy, I am happy!

completions was 14 out of 38, ok for first day.

Freshman wide receiver Stephen Hill returned punts on Monday, along with Jerrard Tarrant. Johnson said coaches will try out all freshmen who have the ability to return kicks, but that they won’t take off a player’s redshirt if that’s the only way they are capable of helping the team win this year.

I don't know what to think about this. Good? Bad? Scrubbing off the rust?

CPJ said in the AJC article “We were way ahead of where we were a year ago at this time” so I'll accept the assessment from the expert.

Pretty familiar with Luallen...I can assure you it was not the "you are an idiot" headroll....it was the "I am such an idiot" headroll.

There is a distinct difference.

Yeah I can see that, true freshman getting his first tries at the offense.

I hope that is true. I, of course, can only report on what I see and not being able to hear what was said, what you say is quite possible. He did have the best footwork out of the whole group.

if you think you saw him roll his head at cpj i can assure you it was at himself because im sure cpj would have noticed and done something otherwise if he was rolling his head at him. i cant wait to see this kid play. i hope he redshirts this year and next year competing for the starting job. i know nesbitt is only a junior and would be back next year but from what i hear this kid has the making to be the perfect fit for this offense and could be scary.

Here is macon.com's summary of the practice.

There wasn't a whole lot of REALLY good, but there wasn't very much REALLY bad, either. Yes, as you'll read in Tuesday's edition of The Telegraph and at macon.com/tech, there were fumbles, there were overthrown passes, there just wasn't great quarterbacking play. But there were positives.
As you'll also read in Tuesday's practice notebook, injured linebacker Kyle Jackson was on hand, and he had some interesting things to say about his foot injury. Here are a few quotes from Jackson that won't make it in the paper:

"I can only say so much right now. Then again, we only know so much. It’s really just an issue of time. Originally, I dislocated my Lisfranc (a joint in the middle of the foot that forms an arch between the two bones known as the first and second metatarsals), and I was in a cast for six weeks. I guess the dislocation set. So the instability in my lisfranc joint is gone, but the pain is still there, and that’s what the issue is now.

I cant even find myself to walk normal yet.

It’s just one of those things where it’s a time-bearing issue. It’s complicated. In some cases it’s easy to solve, in other cases it’s complicated. There’s guys in the pros who have just sprained their Lisfranc, and they sat them out (for the year), but it’s just one of those things where only time can tell. I just wish I knew a time myelf, but I don’t, unfortunately.

It’s actually the same injury Cedric Peerman had last year at Virginia, Dwight Freeny sprained his, but they put him on IR for the whole year.

It’s not like I haven’t gotten better at all. I’ll get a little bit better at a time, and then after that it’ll just plateau. And it’s frustrating. It’s frustrating for me, for the coaches for the training staff. Everybody is just kind of up in the air about it. Even the doctors at Emory and the guy in Charlotte are frustrated. "

Jackson has seen specialists at Emory University, including another doctor in Charlotte, who has seemed informed him of the time-sensitive nature of his rehab. While he still doesn't know when he'll return, Jackson's appearance in the Sept. 5 season-opener is very much an open question.

In an afternoon highlighted by more bad than good, Johnson’s Yellow Jackets kicked off their fall practices in preparation for Sept. 5’s season opener against Jacksonville State. The practice was the first of 30 during a five-week string of conditioning drills, learning exercises and skills-honing workouts.
Of the not-so-good Johnson witnessed, Georgia Tech’s top five quarterbacks combined to complete 14-for-38 passes in one non-contact 7-on-7 drill. With the players in shorts and helmets, there were no pass rushers, just defensive backs and linebackers in place to disrupt the quarterbacks’ attempts.
Starter Josh Nesbitt was 2-for-12 during the exercise, while third-string signal-caller Tevin Washington had the strongest performance, going 5-for-6, passing mostly in the flats and short yardage situations. True freshmen Jordan Luallen and David Sims — on the field for the first time during their Georgia Tech careers — were a combined 4-for-13.
To add to their woes, the freshmen appeared to have problems with snaps and handoffs, as they dropped five fumbles between them during an eight-snap stretch. On one other play during the streak, Nesbitt and starting B-back Jonathan Dwyer had a mix-up on a handoff, and Dwyer dropped the ball as a play began developing.
“Oh, they looked like they’re drinking from a firehose,” Johnson said of Luallen and Sims. “It’s going to be a lot thrown at them really fast for a while, but they’re both good athletes, and I saw some good things out of both of them (Monday).”
One of the most positive things Johnson saw defensively was the return of defensive back and kick returner Jerrard Tarrant.

I hope that is true. I, of course, can only report on what I see and not being able to hear what was said, what you say is quite possible. He did have the best footwork out of the whole group.

Jordan is a "yes sir...no sir" kid.

CPJ said in the AJC article “We were way ahead of where we were a year ago at this time” so I'll accept the assessment from the expert.

The thing that worries me here is that we should be ahead of where we were a year ago at this time. What I want to know is how we compare to where we were towards the end of last season. In other words, we learned a lot last year, so how much of that did we "lose" during the course of the summer. I guess for CPJ, thats an impossible prediction to make, but that's what I'm really wondering about.

Interesting. This account by Jackson is far different than what I remember reading in the AJC, where he predicts he will be back by opening day.

I think the quote you're referring to in the AJC is in regards to Roddy Jones. The quote I read from Kyle in the AJC said pretty much the same thing as this one did. He just doesn't know how long it will take. It may even be all season.

Yes, but last year we were having problems running the 'bread and butter' plays. This year we are having trouble with implementing the passing plays. BIG difference. When PJ says we are where we are last year, it's not exactly the same.

I want him to be cocky coming in. That shows moxie. Break him now and make him a YELLOWJACKET!
