What has happened to the McCray boy?

I'm not finding anything about him on the Hive.

Tech's probably out of the running for him.

He's had about the flakiest recruting I can remember and he only passively mentioned us because he knows Mario Butler. We had a chance if he came to the ND game, but now it looks like he won't visit campus at all.

I haven't heard anything on McCray ever since he cancelled his visit to the GT/ND game on September 2nd.

Forecast calls for Partially Doubtful. It seems his interests are all over the map and that academics are not his first priority which probably does not bode well for us. Of course, I could be totally wrong.

He visited unofficially with McCray earlier. I doubt we get this guy, and seriously I think we'd rather fill out some other positions.

it's ok...we are going to have to turn away several 4 or 5 star players this year.

We have more big-time recruits looking at us than you can imagine. We even have visits in October coming from kids that are committed to Southern Cal (Broderick Green) and Penn State (Kevion Latham) because they want to see what it going on.

The momentum is amazing.

Top targets left Derrick Morgan, Morgan Burnette, Cedric Everson, Jason Peters, and Lorenzo Edwards. Right with them are Cam Baker, Clyde Yandell, Josh Linam, Tony Tucker, Devonte Campbell, Dontrell Inman, and Albert Rocker.

CJ Wood wants to commit to us but we just do have the space...and he has offers from GA and AUB. Golden Tate wants to commit to us...but only has offers from Auburn, Alabama, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Vandy, and Miss. St. Patrick Hampton wants to commit to us...same problem though. He has offers from Maryland, Indiana, and Duke.

I asked you once before and I'm asking again.

If we have this many guys that REALLY want in, then why can't they greyshirt and just hold off one quarter. Most don't play the first year anyway.

Next year we'll have 25 schollies to give!

If we can get anyone to agree to this, that'd be the thing to do.

that is unrealistic the majority of the time for kids with that much talent holding offers from other BCS conference schools.

You could see something like that with Nicolai Schwarzkopf. Now that UGA is backing off CJ Wood because he was waiting on GT and they filled up with OL's...if he wants to go to school with Claytor he may be able to do it if he can look past Auburn and many others.

For example, part of the reason we got Darrell Robertson is FSU asked him to greyshirt with one month left in the recruiting period.

Their is also a pride thing with the high school senior athletes.

btw...whats with the attitude midatl? "ask before and ask again" :-)

Hey, don't PO Hivered... he's one of the few reasons some of us visit this board.

Thanks for the info, Hivered!

Why not drop some of the lower level guys from the recruiting class? Or is that borderline unethical? Also, is it possible to withdraw scholarships of current athletes? Ones that aren't cracking it in college?

I'm an amateur in recruiting so forgive the ignorance.

That's not borderline unethical. That's just plain unethical.

That's what I thought - which is why I asked. Ok, forget my options. Anything that makes the school look bad hurts future recruiting. :o

Not only is it unethical, I don't think it's factual. Who exactly are you talking about when you say "lower" level commits?

According to some "expert" rankings, Kyle Jackson isn't highly ranked (but he is pretty highly ranked by sources other than Scout or Rivals, who haven't completely evaluated him yet). Jackson isn't a 4 or 5 star (yet) but has been crucial to the recruiting efforts of this class.

Gilbert - not highly ranked by Scout or Rivals, but top 20 at his position by ESPN. Same with Tarrant. Who exactly are you talking about?

Read my post again. Like I said, I don't have much knowledge of recruiting. I was simply asking questions as a fan. If I have to name a name, I'd say maybe Tyler Melton - a one-star WR out of Houston. Again, not going by any knowledge of the process, just my own speculation. There have to be some recruits we'd rather have than others.

The funny thing is, it's ok for us to talk about taking players that have committed to other schools, but not ok for us to drop the committments. Ok, not so much funny as hypocritical.

thanks for the comp...although I am sure there are folks who think 180 degrees differently!

When I look at this class, there is no one we did not want. Even the early commitments were among the top 3-5 at their position on our recruiting board early on. Jefferson was the top LB on our board for instance.

The ONLY thing that will keep this from being a Top 5 class is having to stop at 18 instead of the full 25.

Look out next year!

Come on Red, I know you're the man. I wasn't meaning 'nothing (kicking dirt, looking down). I wasn't trying to get uppity or anything. I wuz just wanting to ask again because the first time I didn't want to hear the truth and I wuz hoping that maybe the truth had changed a little.

I am consistently stubborn!

Although I thought I had really hit a nerve!!

Glad that all is well.

Wow! Kevion goes to school with my daughter and is a player. The team isn't very good and teams end up running away from him most of the time, but he certainly seems big time. Supposed to be pretty smart and a good kid. That would be neat if he were to change his mind.
