QB Next Year

From what I've heard:

Lucas Johnson and Jay Jones have the most upside, athleticism and talent. Of the two, Lucas Johnson has the best arm (and most often runs the scout team because he is dual threat); Jay Jones is more of a prototypical CPJ quarterback (think Recon Washington), but he apparently tries to improvise too much instead of just running the plays.

Matthew Jordan obviously has the edge right now, but could easily get beat out in Spring and return to a Byerly type role behind one of those two. Haven't heard anything about Taquon Marshall.

I am optimistic about next year, even the opener against Tenn because they are going to have no idea which type of QB we'll have until kickoff. And all the returning talent on offense is going to help mitigate the learning curve.

I'm on the Brady Swilling train. Guy's weight is listed as 222. It's a ööööing sign.

Me too because he's from my hometown. No idea if he is any good though. If he can execute the offense and throw passes when needed I'm in. While I was impressed with Jordan against VT; his passing didn't look good.

Recon Washington? Haven't seen his name come up since that Jordan Thomas guy was ballin' out.

it will not be easy to replace JT..he was a true difference maker..in the mold of Joe Ham. If any of these other prospects come close to that, we'll be fine. There is a lot of talent at the other skill positions, particularly receiver (two freshman receivers who will make a big impact if given the chance)

I'm going to miss the sheer excitement JT brought to the field. Even during the dull, disappointment of last year he was pure adrenaline.

I have it on good authority that our next starting QB is already on campus and is from some little town in South Carolina, although the name escapes me at this moment. Here is a picture of the player. Looks to me like he's a little short to be a starting QB though. :naughty:

It'll take a tremendous Spring and follow-up in camp for someone to supplant Jordan, and honestly I think that's fine. He's acclimated to the 3O and the personnel we have, and he probably fits the style of game Tech needs to play better than anyone else. There's no doubt we're losing a degree of big play ability on scramble plays and in the passing game with Thomas graduating. But, Jordan's big, strong, and decisive running the base offense, and should allow Tech to get back to controlling clock and grinding opposing defenses into dust. Shorten the game. Protect a young defense. It's the way to go, particularly when we play more explosive teams where we need to keep their offenses off the field.

With a stacked group of A-backs and B-backs returning, I actually wouldn't be shocked if the offense is even better/more consistent than it was this season with Thomas, as hard as that is to believe.

All of these QB's can have more talent than JT and it just won't matter if the will to win isn't there. I believe Vad was one of the most polished QB's we had, but he wasn't willing to walk through hell to win. You can't coach the fight into a kid. You can tell JT has that fight by just looking at his face during the game. Same look Nesbitt had.

The experience over the years with CPJ has been that QBs need a redshirt year and a backup year before they become starters in his system. I like the young talent we have coming up, but I suspect MJ is the guy who will be prepared for the job next year.
