QB released from the team

Well I'm not freaking out about losing Ingram. He always looked like a deer in the headlights in games, even when his only task was to hand the ball off. Shame we lost Threet though.

I figure we'll take another QB this year if and only if we get someone with a lot of upside wanting go come to Tech.

This is not directed at anyone in particular, more of a message board observation. But it never seems to fail that we (like most schools) get a lot of QBs on the roster and then:

a) somebody says we have such a wealth of talent,
b) somebody says we have too many and have used too many scholarships on one position, c) somebody else starts to wonder about position changes, d) somebody else starts to wonder about transfers, e) another party chastises them both about speculating on players moving or leaving the school, f) then players either change positions or leave and g) we immediately start to worry we don't have enough QBs.

In and amongst all this we have the obligatory threads about who didn't get a chance, or who was passed over, etc.

Is it just Tech or is this the norm at every school?

While I don't regularly read any boards from other schools, I'd guess this is the norm everywhere. Everyone's a coach in their own way, and I guess there's not a whole lot to do in the off season besides discuss, second guess, quibble, and worry. I do the same, but in the end I'm glad that the coaches know a whole lot more than I do.

Good observation nc, and a funny cycle for us fans to go through.

You labeled me pretty well. We fans have to sepculate for quite a while until the season is finally here. What else is there to do in life?

The truth is you never know how many backups you'll need at any position. We don't need the 7 QB's we once had, but do we need 4 or 5? Maybe we only need 3.

I swear I saw him in for a hand-the-ball-off drive vs Samford.

Ingram redshirted last year. Manley, Bennett and Garner (remember him?) were the three QBs who played in the second half against Samford. Garner mostly handed the ball off.

Not to knock him or anything, but it's not like he was a projected starter, so why would we go after another one?

Don't be so sure. Ingram was looking really good in practice last year but the coaches backed off of his development because of the grades. I think he could have pushed for the back-up spot to Taylor.

Aaaahhhhh.

I stand corrected. I withdraw my claim of having any opinion of Ingram's talent or upside.

Is Garner gone yet?

Garner is now a member of the Blundering Turd.

Seriously? He transferred prior to spring practice.

Ahh, good deal.

I have a new theory. Doubt it's right, but that's okay, because discussion boards are ripe with crap theories. That's what the internet is for.

We used to have a zillion QBs because they all said to themselves, "Jesus H Christ, I'm better than Reggie Ball." Now everyone's transferring, since they all had their shot and got beat out by Bennett.

beej67,
definitely not paying *that* much attention to the goings on at our 4th string QB position

It's just what "WE" do. As in the types at every school that post on these boards.

We are still solid at QB. We had too many QBs and they couldn't all get sufficient reps in practice to be ready on Saturdays.

I like Bj's theory.
