Question about the officiating

officials had nothing to do with this game, we got our ass whipped. it is the same ole chan story 7-8 wins and a bowl in great falls montana.

I guess you were okay with, for instance, Greg Smith losing his first down on 3rd and 12?

BTW, which bowl game is in Great Falls, Montana? I think I missed that one.

Yeah that was annoying as hell. He backpedaled from beyond the 1st down marker and then it looked like it just happen to pay off and he got a few extra yards. Then replay shows he steps out 1 yard short of the marker...

Damnit, why couldn't he have just dove forward? He had forward progress beyond the first down marker.

Wow... I wasn't sure because I was at the game. That pisses me off. How do you replay it and still get it wrong?

Not disagreeing that the call was wrong, but I can't blame the guy in the booth for not reversing the call. As far as I understand it, they have to have "indisputable evidence" that the call was inaccurate. In the replays I saw, the view of Smith's feet was blocked by other players - so even though you could tell in the replay he hadn't stepped out of bounds there wasn't "indisputable evidence" to overturn the call. Someone please correct if that's not the case, but I believe the booth official's hands were tied.

In that case, I blame the ref who made the initial call because I was sitting in the north end zone and it appeared to me that he did not step out.

I just got through watching the first half last night. This was the worst officiating I've ever seen. Maybe the VT game (a game that we won last year) was a close 2nd as far as incompetence goes.

First half bad calls:

1. Matt Ryan's 1st completion of the game: the WR fumbled the ball (call could have gone either way) but didn't. We would have had HUGE momentum and the crowd would have been more into it the rest of the way. Watch this play in Slo Mo if you can. Tough call to make but naturally, didn't go our way. This play was the theme for things to come ALL NIGHT.

2. PI on Pat Clark = good call...BUT on that very same play Adamm Oliver was tackled in the #'s on his backside to prevent the sack. No holding call. BC's drive continues. TD.

3. After the TD: Dwyer returns the KO to BC's 49 yard line. A phantom block in the back on the opposite side of the field (had no bearing on the play and wasn't even viewable from the TIVO perspective because it was so far away from being relevant) by Jake Blackwood negates a great play for the Jackets.

2nd half from what I remember live at the game:

1. Greg Smith was in bounds. Drive killer. Terrible call.

2. Pass interference on Gary Guyton. Quite possibly the worst call of the night. A few plays later: TD BC.

Haven't we already gotten jobbed before by a replay official overturning something that *wasn't* indisputable this season? I believe that happened a time or two against Notre Dame.

All I ask for is consistency. All the ACC officials do consistently is suck.

Fixed.

If they were equal-opportunity suckers then I wouldn't have near as big a problem with them.

beej67,
loves having UGA at home because we get SEC officials.

Just wait until you get around to watching the third quarter.

The momentum that was lost by GT and gained by BC during the game due to officiating cost us big time. I'm not saying the refs cost us the game, but they definitely hindered us in any sort of comeback effort. I really hope we get another shot at BC down in J'Ville.
