I'm watching College football live right now and B. Huard said that Duke was a very hard school to get into and it's remarkable they got 27 signees this year.

Is duke hard to get into? Undergrad wise isn't it the same as some of the football factories?

Thanks for admitting what I already knew. And yes, duke is harder to get into than the football factories.

Did you mean 'question from an idiot' ?

Yes Duke is hard to get in, though it's private so if you are paying your way in with some financial contributions and alumni family, that might change it. On the other hand, Duke has a more diverse selection of Majors making it probably easier for student athletes to survive.

What B Huard said is remarkable only if the 27 signees are very good. I somehow doubt..

ohhhhh! you got me!

Sorry, I will wait until someone that's not from France and over 13 to answer me.

by the way fridge, with a bunch of kids closing into the college phase, did you not look at all into other colleges? Or GT the only option for your kids?

Duke's acceptance rate in 2008 was 18.8%.

Thanks, that's where I was wrong. Once they get in it's not that hard or at least they can hide in some easier courses.

My oldest got in. She will be 4th generation on wife's side.
Harrison wants badly to go there, so it's up too him.
The little ones will go there unless they have better offers athletically.

Duke is harder to get in than GT. I'm not sure there are any schools in the country harder to complete than GT, save perhaps MIT or Cal Tech. Duke is most definitely harder to complete than many other private schools though, like Stanford for instance.

That said, it is fairly easy for athletes to get special dispensation to get into Duke, and athletes never have a hard time graduating from Duke. Duke's football team's SAT scores aren't near as good as Tech's football team's scores.

Back in the day I applied to Duke. I got into Yale and Harvard. Got a foundation fellowship at U[sic]GA and a President's Scholarship at Tech. I was rejected by Duke. Fortunately, I took the deal at Tech.

I'd say they are hard to get into.

That said at law school and in my brief legal career I've been fairly impressed by Duke undergrads. Hard workers for the most part, not as psychotic as Harvard folks, more grounded and less likely to be gay than Yalies (not that there is anything at all wrong with that, I'm not a hypocrite).

I thought this was supposed to say question FOR an idiot. That's why I entered.

I'm leaving now.

Duke is hard to get into, and you have to work to get out, but they don't give bad grades unless you simply don't do what you're told. Duke undergrads are used to a heavy workload becuase it's what is demanded, but they also don't have that fear of being flunked out hanging over their heads that Tech students do. Their graduate rates are ridiculously high and the debate usually is whether that's because of the quality of students or ease of the programs once you're in. My view (brother is a grad, worked there for 10+ years) is it isn't easy but you do the work, you get the grade. Most get at least a B in every class.

I don't know that getting athletes in is any harder than at Tech though.

He must not be one of the 88 a-holes. I will never forget those a-wipes. I still look one up every once in awhile and write them to go to Hell.

Duke was recently rated the #13 school in the world by some acclaimed group. Tech was somewhere in the Top 100.
