Question of Signee Steven Threet (QB)

Somehow I missed this, but I just read on RamblinWreck.com that Steven Threet, who committed to GT, is the 13th rated High School QB among 2007 graduates. He's a 4.00 student, is 6'5", 230 lbs., and hails from Adrian, MI. He had 20 TD passes in 10 games this season. Sounds like Tech got a choice QB! I'd be interested in hearing more info on the young man if anyone has it. Thank you.

He was discovered at elite passing camp (GT, Auburn, and/or Atlanta IIRC). He was very impressive there and IIRC some who witnessed the camp said he was far and away the best QB. We got in very early.

You think there's any chance of Steven starting as a freshman?

Yes. While I would prefer that Bennett continue to improve, there's still a reason RB continued to play. That concerns me. Taylor has done an excellent job for the limited amount of time he's had. He hasn't proven yet that he can handle the starting job on a daily basis...because he hasn't had the chance. Still, I think CCG wants Taylor to win the job outright and let the kids mature.

Threet is gunning for it, thats clear, with enrolling early to attend spring practice he's not hiding his intentions at all. His pushing will make Benne that much better, or he'll be starting, but this kids out to achieve and if he improves like it looks like he wants to, he'll be starting QB for us at some point in his career.

I'm Very High On Threet

He'll have this spring practice to acclimate. He's on campus now and working out.

His height is legit 6-5 or 6-6. No exaggeration there. He's a lot thinner than 230 now though. He's dropped weight since last season.

Throws all the passes. His long ball looks effortless. The word in the camps is he threw all the passes and threw a very catchable ball. The receivers loved working with him.

Tough. On one highlight, he gets flagged for a facemask. He says his senior year goal was to not be arm-tackled a single time. He hopes to run some here, since his HS coach did not allow him to, him being the franchise and all.

Nice, affable guy who's liked by everyone. Should have good leadership skills.

With that height, reading the safeties should be no problem. Ran out of the shotgun most of the time, but is fine under center.

I read somewhere he threw for 4800 yds-was that last yr or in career?

I would say its Bennett 70/30. But you never know.

Reggie could be back for year five? You never know (unless it's a mutt).

He came by to talk with Kirsten Flowers, the frosh tennis star for GT during the matches today. By the way, she played doubles, but didn't play singles today.

What a stud, going for the doubles team when he could be content for the singles.

Its no secret Steven wants to start next season and truly believes he can...him and TB have become pretty good buddies, I expect a great competition this spring...TB is gonna have his work cut out for him... ST might have the best arm we have seen on the flats in a long while!

Based on the staff's comments at signing day, Taylor would have to have a poor spring for him not to be the starting qb.

I saw the films of the kid as a high school senior. He can play and could play next year once hegot used to the system. He can throw the heck out of the ball.He is big dude who can take a lick.

Playing as a true frosh has less to do with getting used to the system than it does with who the competition is and figuring out defenses. I hope neither freshman plays because that will mean Taylor has flopped. They can use a RS year to study the college game and be ready to take over.

I would love to see Taylor Bennett QB the Jackets on the flats next season, but . . . if Steven Threet actually wins the job and can give GT a great season, then, that's what I want.

Don't rule out Nesbitt or Ingram. The QB competition has heated up.

I think we will see Taylor Bennett as the starter for the first game. Unless a freshman just sets himself apart from the pack, I just don't see giving a guy his first start against Notre Dame at Notre Dame. After that, things could get interesting.
